Panasonic PT 47WX51 TV troubleshooting

I have a 4 1/2 yr old rear proj. TV that suddenly developed a "bowing" effect in the middle of the screen from both sides. It resembles a "bell curve" and doubles the text and images present. Unable to find any info on the web but suspect it's a board or circut gone bad. I hesistate to spend the $$$ on repairs but will if not too expensive. Amy assistance/advice is really appreciated.

On my panasonic projection, the picture seems like it zooms in closer and zooms back out. It does it pretty often. A "bowing" effect maybe? I dont know where to start looking to fix the problem. Please help.

Your TV most likely has a Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together convergence repair kits for most models.

The kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, etc. Everything you will need to do the repair yourself.

This bowing you say happens in the middle of the screen??? on the sides of the set are the lines all white on the test pattern or differant colors. If all differant colors then you have a convergence problem and unless your good with a scope it would be best to leave to a pro. Now you could simply replace the convergence Board but then you will have to adjust all the controls in the set. Now if they just separate a little and still white at the edges its a pincussion problem. good luck Dont forget to write back if you need more assistance or you get it fixed
