Re: Sony KV 2084R
Is this set attached to cable?? have you tryed another set in this sets place first??? if so then the tuner on the sets probably bad but make sure the signals good on another set and not just on a default cable station on the tv like channel 3 or 4 .If another set looks crappy too then call the cable company.. if its on an outside antenna(do they still use those LOL)then see what others in the area are getting for reception. sorry My friend I cant answer any farther till you come back with more for me in my questions.
This set is a very nice model BUT how long have you had the set? How did the picture before it went out. Does the set have all the features. Do you like the set? These are questions you have to ask yourself. The tuner got this model is available at www.partstore.com at a cost of 77.78 usd. the part # is 859825400. if you know someone with electronic experience this is not a hard part to replace BUT im against a do-it yourselfer trying to get into a tv set to save a few bucks when they can be killed or seriously hurt! The RF amplifier in the tuner has been damaged. You will need to replace the tuner. A suitable replacement tuner from a wrecked Sony tv would be you cheapest option.

have a service tech check your tuner section for problems. are these channels snowy? if they are it is most likely no or limited amount nof frequency or not enough voltage going to tuner. this could be caused by a resistor or diode problem.
In all likelyhood, you have a bad ground somewhere in the cable. Try other channels through the VCR. If the ground is the problem, there will be a cluster of channels that are snowy with the rest being clear. Check the cable itself and all of the connectors along it.
If the cable and connectors are good, the tuner or power supply of the VCR could be faulty and cause this as well.
If its a digital television and has a remoten sensor just buy a universal remote and configure it to your TV.
If it responds then you can search and store the channels you missing.
Thanks
If you are on cable, first run the cable wire from the wall directly to the TV, eliminating any cable box and/or VCR. If channel 2 is snowy but the rest (especially 3-6) are clear, it is most certainly a cable problem and not a TV problem. The TV uses the exact same circuits for channel 2 to 6 (VHF-LOW) so if the tuner was bad and 2 was snowy, 3, 4, 5 and 6 would be snowy too. Bring a second TV into that room, disconnect the cable wire from the RCA and connect it to the second TV. Is channel 2 on the second TV as snowy as it was on the RCA?
If the tuner is bad is it worth fixing?
