My washing machine sounds like it still has water in it when i spin it and it smells musty

there is dirty water still in the m/c do a boil wash with nothing in it buy some nice smelling conditiner and poor some of that in it also this is a tip from my mam leave the door open when not in use to let the insides dry out

When a moldy or musty smell develops in a washing machine, many times the smell is coming from the open areas of the agitator. Water along with soap and/or liquid softener sometimes splashes into an open agitator, and when the lid is closed it does not dry out. Instead, mold begins to form, and a musty smell wafts from inside the machine, even after the lid has been opened for an extended period of time. Until the mold is removed the washing machine will continue to smell bad, even if it is used and allowed to air dry with the lid open.The tub can also be the source of the smell. Lint can gather and collect in the holes, and when it does not dry fast enough it ends up smelling musty and moldy. Even the top of the rim can become moldy and musty, but proper cleaning can get rid of the odor.

So that said.To clean the machine,fill to just above the top row of holes in the tub.Add 2 cups of bleach.Let sit for 1-2 hours.Then let the machine run it`s wash cycle.Lastly use bleach water and a rag to wipe the machine down inside and out.If the agitator has a cup on top remove and clean with bleach.Leave the top open so the machine can dry.

Now it should smell better,if so use as normal,and leave the lid open when not in use.

Small hidden water leaks will cause a musty smell. Usually the leak is from a dried out hose

the water in the unit is normal, to kill the smell when you are done doing wash for the day dampen a rag with bleach and whip down the door gasket. You can buy a cleaner called "afresh" it works as well. If your unit is a neptune check with maytag it might have a recall on the door gasket for growing mould

Do a boil wash without clothes & detergents, with a cup of bicarbonate of soda in the soap drawer.

there could be buildup in the outer tub causing some water to stay trapped and causing the smell, try running some loads uning Ahfresh or you can try pouring lots of bleach in there and letting it sit a while, then run it throu a cycle.

The water will always be in there. It is in between the basket and the drum. That is normal. However if you want to get rid of the musty smell there is a good tip that I have. You can find this on my profile too. Just take about a cup of white vinegar and put it in the drum and wash on hot heavy load. This will clean the tub and all hoses as well. You can do this every few months or even every month if you do a lot of laundry. Put some vinegar into the bleach dispenser too and the fabric softener area as well. This way you will clean everything. It is much cheaper then going out and buying that expensive cleaner made for washing machines. Let me know if you have any other questions and if this was helpful. It sounds like a build up of washing residue. Clean inside the door seal and do a very hot wash with a bit of washing powder and no clothes. Repeat this once a week until smell has gone.
