GE Washer smells like burnt rubber

I was doing laundry this morning, did not even fill up the washer all the way, so it didn't overload.

Apparently it wouldn't agitate or spin at all. Was told that when I got home at least.

We took out the agitator and I tried it again. With the agitator out, it would spin and the thing the agitator was on seemed like it was working.

Problem is now it smells like burnt rubber. Not sure why. Anyone know?

Thanks

Hi, timhowarth1
ngafm at your service,

Because it wouldn't agitate or spin at all the belt burned as it tried to spin!
A problem with th coupler or transmission.
You need an experienced and hands on laundry tech or you may make matters worse or spend money replacing parts unnecessarily.

How old is the washer?

If the appliance is 10 years old or more you it may not be advisable to put good money into bad!
New appliances are so much more efficient today that they can save you a lot of money in energy!

My Stackable washer/dryer is not operating right

Two things:

1) I would first check your water pump, if something gets in it or the water pump bearing is bad, it makes this kind of a sound.

2) If you can spin the washer drum by hand in either direction, the transmission is bad.

Good Luck!

Own a Maytag Washing Machine Model No. LAT9416AAE I overloaded with a extra large comforter. I started the cylce and went upstairs to my room leaving it unattended. My parents were down stairs With it, and...

there is a thermal overload protector in the motor. After the motor cools it should restart. There is an off balance switch that might have been tripped when pulling out the comforter or when bailing out the water. As for the belts, tip the machine back and you will see the belts underneath the washer. Very easy to change and you'll see what I mean when you see the belts. That should solve your problem. AND DON'T OVERLOAD THE WASHER AGAIN.

Burnt rubber smell

the belt is broken. the machine wont spin or agitate with a broken belt. set the timer to spin and the water should still drain. but not spin. belts are very cheap but replacing on could be tricky if you dont know what your doing
