My Panasonic DMR E55 has suddenly stopped working and is displaying, in red, the word 'EXT link'. Nothing, including pulling out the plug and starting again, has any effect whatsoever. The machine just sits there. I have taken advice locally and been told that the machine is simply broken. No explanation. .Just the advice, "Buy another one". Is this true? Is there nothing to be done? To date, the machine has worked faultlessly.
Hi James,
When in EXT link mode the recorder is looking for a signal from the TV to start recording off the TV's timers system.
There is a EXT Link button on the remote control and pressing that will take the machine back to normal mode. The button is near the bottom of the remote.
Hope this helps

Many many thanks!
I tried posting another comment which didn't get through. So, I'll try again. I'm new at this game. When I looked for help by phoning two local places, a general repair shop and a specialist Panasonic Centre, one told me that the machine probably needed a new board. The other commented that '"all machines have a shelf life". I don't know what an EXT Link is for (although I can imagine). I have never needed it or even noticed it. However, the moral is, "don't let your cat sleep on top of the remote". Many, many thanks. I am truly impressed.
All the best

Thanks for the information. My experience only goes to illustrate how many of the many functions of these devices we totally ignore.
Appreciated the feedback.
