Lexus gs400 1998 ignition switch turned all the way to the start position, occasionally nothing happens won't start. Battery checked OK, cables clean and secured to battery terminals, headlights work. What can it be, loose connection to ignition switch? internal ignition switch contact problem? other?

Hi,

Sounds to me like either an Immobilisor or Key transponder issue.

Have your vehicle's OBD2 body computer checked for diagnostic codes by your nearest authorised agent - 90% of faults are monitored by this computer.

Checking for codes only takes 15mins (providing the technician knows what he is doing) and will save you unecessary expense.

No electrical power, replaced battery still nothing

Check the battery voltage. It should be 12 volts. Trickle chargers work better if the battery is disconnected from the motorcycle, if not, something may draw current from the battery faster than it can recharge. You can bring the battery to Autozone, they will check it for free. Good luck!

Won't start

How about corroded battery cables (internal)

Fusible Link wiring corroded & open circuit,does
everything electrical work except the starting circuit?

Turn key & have power to starter solenoid ?
Neutral Switch !
Ignition Switch !

Tough to guess without wiring diagrams,
to see where to start testing
