When burning dvd-r drive wont read the disc and after a minuet the busy lite flashes fault(flashes 4 times, stops and flashes 4 times) if you keep trying the same disc sometimes it will work other wise i have to keep trying a new blank disc, is this a fault with the drive or could it just be down to poor discs (using tesco's own brand name(they were on a bogof)) also has alot of problems reading cd's ihave to use the other drive for cd's .
I have the same trouble well my lite on can read burned dvds info movies etc but i use a blank dvd and it says insert a disk in to drive why is this maybe a hack or a spyware or some virus my drive was ok and from 1 day to another it just stop working reading blank dvds ? Help¡¡¡¡¡

There are two common causes for these kinds of problems: software doesn't match, or media doesn't match. also, there a lack of info in here. is drive capable of reading dvd's when it is used for other purposes?
1. are you sure you got the right firmware? check for updates on brand site or on google.
2. try using several types of media from diffrent brands. some drives cannot read specific media (for instance, sony drivers sometimes having trouble with JVC media).
3. the least common, but worst option by far is a hardware problem. if drive is bad, you should try and replace it in case your warrenty didnt expire.

Try cleaning the disc (clean cloth going from middle out, not in circles). On the computer that does read the disc, try copying the disc contents onto a flash drive and then try installing the program from the flash drive instead of the disc if the computer still refuses to read it after cleaning the disc.
Now I LIKE Liteon very much. THey never give me any trouble and as long as you keep the lense clean, they burn for years upon years to come. Okay, so it CAN write, but can't read? Very odd indeed. I would strongly suggest first buying a CD Lense Cleaner disc. Don't be cheap. Get Memorex or Scotch 3M. I would Suggest Memorex because the brushes on THAT disc are SPECIALLY-designed to clean the lense, but NOT to damage it. Next, try installing Nero Ultra Edition and do a Burn-in or a Read/Write test with a CLEAN CD or DVD and see if it will tell you the Read/write data rate. If the lense is just a BIT dirty, it WILL give you those kind of problems.
If your Drive is a CD-Rome drive, surely it cant, for the drive cant read dvd disc.
Replace the drive of yours with DVD-Rom or DVD-RW in order to play dvd disc, DVD-RW simply has the added capablity to burn on DVD discs
After variety of different tests and findings I have resolved this issue. It appears that the DVD burner was not in good working order and the DVD player was not at fault. Thanks you to all who answered and responded to my problem. Many thanks.
Hi
Please try and use a different brand of DVD discs. DVD disc quality is sometimes an issue with lite-on drives
Also check that you have updated drivers and your media burning software is installed correctly. Again if your using NERO this can be a problem. Try using any other burning software
One other thing to try when recording DVDs set the recording speed to lowest
Many Thanks
Andy
You may be using the wrong type of DVD format. Some DVD-ROMs and players will only read certain discs. i.e. DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RAM. If you are trying to read a DVD-R disc that was bought blank, and then had things burned to it, it may be that the disc wasn't finalised after burning. You could always try updating the Firmware version by downloading it from the website.
In these drives there are two lasers and two pick-up sensors. Normally in a combined head. One set is used for the DVD and the other is used for the CD. From you description it sounds like the optical sensor for the CD laser has expired! When you place a CD into the drive a small amount of information is read by the drive that identifies the disc type, manufacturer, it's status, capacity etc. If the drive cannot read this then it thinks nothing is present.
If you insert a disc does the LED on the front the the unit flash a few times while it spins the disc. Does it do this repeatedly? If it fails to read the disc does the LED stop blinking and the drive no longer spins the disc? If this is the case then your drive may indeed be faulty.
