I don't know it by model number but the generation are easy to define.
A first generation nano is either black or white.  It is made out of the same material as a standard Ipod at the time.  Comes in 1 gig and 2 gig only
A second generation nano is multi colored and made from a metal case.  Similar in design to a mini.  The edges are round as well. comes in 2 gig and 4 gig.
A third generation nano is a different size than 1 and 2.  it has a bigger screen on it.  Can play videos as well.  Comes in 2 gig, 4 gig, and 8 gig as well.

Ipod nano A1137

get i-tunes from apple.com and after installing it plug in your i-pod and click the restore button. After it's done restoring, you should be able to sync with i-tunes. You cannot copy free music with media player

I pod 4 G model no A1137.

Use Itunes. It's made for ipods, you can "eject" your ipod and safely disconnect it. I used to use Winamp and Windows, and had troubles all the time. Now I use mac os and have no problems at all.

Problem with IPod Nano Model A1137

Try holding the menu button and center button at the same time. this should reset the ipod completely. Its a force power up and power down similar to Zapping your PRAM on a computer. this should reset the configurations
Hopefully that helps
