Have presario 2500 series and the "C" key fell off. On the keyboard there is a rubber nib in the center and 2 metal "clips" that face outward; one on each side of the nib. The axis of the clips is vertical. On the key top is a apparatus that extends downward with gravity and is is a "X" or scissors like configuration. The extension of the apparatus make the "slots" for the clips move towards the center of the key. when flat the apparatus is spread maximally wide.
The key top appears to be pushed up by the central nib and held back by the scissors apparatus.
Question is how to put the key back on? tried to line up the clips with the slots on the scissors apparatus but can't get it mounted.
Many thanks in advance.
the metal clips are those wich holds the key in place
u need them to be pushed agianst the movment of the key soo they will keep the key in "their hands"
grab a big set of tweezers and push the clips separate
then push the key to its place (in the right direction)
check very closely so the key inserts its place
a couple of tries and you will success to do it

A laptop "key" generally comes with a metal harness as well. Just clip the harness onto the back of the key, then press the key onto the keyboard firmly - it should snap back on. If the key looks as if its not clipped in correctly, push down with a little more force and a bit of a finger jiggle.
My son when he was 2 pulled ALL of my laptop keys off - and this was how i got them back on.
You can easily fix your space bar. I fixed mine last month when my daughter pulled it out of the keyboard. I used this video tutorial guide to help install the space bar key back into place. Its really very simple. have a look: http://www.laptopkey.com/installation_guides.php
On a presario the keys are hinged with a small metal hinge at the top that fits into two plastic clips and lets the key sit over the membrane of the keyboard. If the plastic clips have snapped it will involve the fitting of a new keyboard which isnt a user serviceable thing.
If it's out of warranty (HP now own Compaq, so it's them you'll need to talk to, but they will tell you the warranty status from the serial number of the machine) you might consider a rubber "roll up keyboard" along the lines of http://www.iwantoneofthose.com/bendi-light-up-keyboard/index.html - these are rubber folding keyboards that can be transported easily in your laptop bag but are still full size.
The keyboard has to be replaced, I had the same problem 3 times and they wont even sell you a keyboard, You have to send it in. You can just keep using the little rubber button underneath. I have a replacement keyboard for you for 25$ if you want it from a unit with a cracked lcd. post an E-mail address so I can get your info and I'll ship it free if you rate this fixya. Thank you George
Have you tried to delete that number? so your problem is all about that number? maybe capslock is on, or maybe your keyboard is damage. Try to buy a new outboard kyboard which is a USB type. Then reinstall your WINDOWS.
this problem may happen usually when the keyboard driver is not installed well .so try os installed from other os pack .i think this may be remove your problem otherwise it is a hardware problem and you have to visit your local dealer of your laptop
