"Edit" softkey is not working, Can't enter NTP or TFTP on Cisco 7912 phone

I can make and take calls on my phone and when I used to do " **# " I could enter the 1234 default password to unlock the Padlock Icon and get into "Network Settings" and "SIP Configuration" on the IP phone. I never got around to resetting to a unique password. Now when I do " **# " it does not ask for a password and also when trying to enter a TFTP Server, NTP Server or other info, I have no option to do so as the "Edit" softkey is not there.

I also went into the phone via HTTP and while I could enter the info there, the phone would not save it. I tried erased the config to start over and still would not let me enter the 1234 password or create a unique password.

Has anyone ever encountered this problem before? How was it fixed? Thanks in advance for any replies.

I would try logging into your CCME and deleting that phone from the user list. That way, it will have to contact your server and redownload all the necessary files. If that doesn't work, I would try using the factory reset code which would completely reset it. Both of these require that your server is up and running properly.

DND, Headset, Mute and Speaker lights on. Why does it appear to be dead?

Your phone is probably broken. I have the LG IP8830 witch is a similar model and I'm using it with the SIP firmware. I have never seen my phones come up with a blank screen. You can try re-loading the firmware if you have it. You will also need a TFTP server setup. You can run TFTPD32 on a Windows PC as your tftp server. The following are the steps for re-installing the firmware on the IP8830.

Phone lock-up maybe caused by an error in transport during the
software upgrade. To correct this problem:
1. Disconnect power from the IP Phone.
2. Press and hold the [Up] and 2 button while reapplying
power.
3. Release the buttons when the Message LED extinguishes.
4. When the BootC screen appears, enter the digits 1, 2, 3
and 4.
5. Follow the prompts to configure IP parameters for the IP
Phone.
6. At the "Server Addr?" prompt, enter the TFTP server
address where the IP Phone can find the BootC firmware.
If already correct, press the [Next] button.
7. At the "Do you want to apply default?" prompt select the
[Yes] softkey to use default or [No] softkey to use
previously assigned parameters.
The IP Phone will reboot and return to normal operation.

Hope this helps

Cisco ip phone 7912 is not working. when conecting in LAN then it will not boot, while another same series ip phone on that LAn port works perfectly. Only red and green LED blink continue in...

If it is getting an IP address, goto that IP address and there you will be able to see some console messages. See if alternate TFTP is set and is going to a different CM server. If so change it to the ip of your CM.

Hi,i wanna use cisco ip phone 7940 as sip ip phone.when i power up the phone ,it can get ip from network, but finally,it shows "TFTP timeout"in display led.All the buttons can not be used.What...

Hi,

the DHCP server should be providing the address of the TFTP Server as DHCP Option 150. The most likely problems are:

Option 150 not defined, or not the correct IP address of the TFTP Server.
Or possibly your TFTP Server is not functioning properly.

If you have not Option 150 defined, the phone will use the default gateway as the TFTP server address.

Cheers, Simmo99.
