Would begin by checking obvious components like the power supply transistors, diodes, caps, etc. Also, if you can locate it (it should be a large transistor mounted on a heatsink by the flyback x-former), check the horizontal output transistor for a dead short. You could also have a lot of cold solders on the cotrnol board and in the HV and power supply.

Black screen on my hitachi ultravision 55 inch plasma tv

With a black screen, it could be any number of things. You cold have a bad Y sustain brd, Z sustain brd, digital brd, etc. As the tv powers on it develops turn on signals to the power supply. If there are any bad drive boards, these signals will not be developed thus not allowing the power supply to fully energize. This repair will probably require a qualified technician.

Microwave will not heat food

High voltage parts are suspect. Need to put a voltmeter on the input (primary) side to the high-voltage transformer (big heavy iron thing in there) Should be getting 120Vac when it goes to cook cycle. Don't touch the other (high voltage) side of this transformer. If the power is there, you are looking at replacing high-voltage capacitor and diode. If that doesn't solve it, then it needs a new magnatron. Its affordable if you do it yourself - buy the part on EBAY - lookup "universal magnatron"
Hope ya fix it!
