Is there any way to bypass problems with the Lexmark 6500 series printer when using a refill cartridge. I'm using Vista OS and wifi on an HP G50-109NR notebook. Thanks.

Drivers are current. I have cleaned printhead already. No help. I believe problem has to do with Lexmark software designed tp prevent use of non-Lexmark cartridges. If you know of no solution other than use of Lexmark cartridges, pls. refund my $15. Thanks.

  • argiguy Aug 27, 2011

After doing this with the black cartridge, it prints only in color.

  • argiguy Aug 27, 2011

There are actually 5 vertical "connectors" on this cartridge on both the right and left hand sides.
I assume you are referring to the Left side as the cartridge is inserted into the printer and not to the Left side as it is facing you.

  • argiguy Aug 27, 2011

Also, I tried covering just the top 4 connectors on the left side (as it is inserts into printer) and that made no difference.

  • argiguy Aug 27, 2011

Not sure if you gor all of my last reply. I asked if it's the left side as the cartridge fits into the printer.
There are 5 vertical connectors on both right and left sides (although 4 are clearly grouped together). I taped just the 4 on that side in that grouping, and it made no difference at all. Still prints in color only.

  • argiguy Aug 28, 2011

With those 4 connectors covered by the clear tape, it won't print anything in black (the covered cartridge).

  • argiguy Aug 29, 2011

If you have no further suggestions, pls. refund my $15.

  • argiguy Aug 31, 2011

Not sure you got my last reply. I had repeated that the clear cellophane tape trick made no difference except that the printer could not recognize the presence of the black (taped) cartridge and that, if you had no further suggestions, I would appreciate a refund of my $15 fee. Pls. advise. Thanks.

I have made 2 requests for a refund since your solution was of no help. Today, I discovered that my Visa was charged the $15 yesterday (9/1/11), AFTER those requests were made and apparently ignored. I am copying your previous relavent comment here:
"Well, unlike Lexmark we always do refund if customer is not satisfied with or no solution is available."

Hi,
It depends on the issue. If the issue is driver related, we can fix it. If the issue has something to do with dried refill inks on the print head, we can try cleaning the printhead with alcohol. If it doesn't fix the problem then you need to replace it with all original Lexmark cartridges which is always recommended.

Well, unlike Lexmark we always do refund if customer is not satisfied with or no solution is available. Check what I did to mine.

Use clear tape over left hand row of sensors on front of cartridge and re-insert. Ink will now show with question mark but reads as full and prints fine. I hope it works, if not then we will refund it to you.

That's how Lexmark business goes. They wanted to sell more inks than printers. The software thing, I haven't heard of it. If you know the name of the program, perhaps, I can help you look for it.

Is it the left side down that you covered? Here's the detailed instruction on to do it correctly.

Tape the 4 vertical connectors on the left side :''Use clear tape over left hand row of sensors on front of cartridge and re-insert. ink now shows with question mark but reads as full and prints fine''.

How to open and replace the ink cartridge from my 6500a plus

Simple, turn on your HP OJ 6500A printer and open top cover...carriage should move to cartridge access position. If not, then the service station may be in the way or the PRINTHEAD assembly is not properly locked down causing an error condition. Power supply could also cause this kind of failure.

Will lexmark 17 black inkt cartridge and a lexmark 27 color ink cartridge fit in a hp photosmart c4280 all in one printer and work properly?

Negative, but you may want to think about refilling your HP74/75 ink cartridges for your HP PS C4280 printer....it's actually quite affordable.

My printer display says cartridges appear to be missing or damaged

Either the cartridge is malfunctioning, if you used refilled cartridges this common, or they came unseated. Check to make sure they are seated correctly by removing them and putting them back. If that doesn't work try replacing them with new, not refilled, cartridges and see if that resolves the issue. If it doesn't the problem is a circuit problem that will need to be repaired by a technician.

HP 5150 Deskjet -- black printing abruptly stopped. Prints appear with color but no black. Switching black cartridges doesn't help. Clean print heads operation doesn't help. Switching computers...

There are very few things you can do, other than what you have aleady done.
I would recommend a decision on how much the unit cost and how long you have used the
printer vrs. what HP or a local authorized service center would charge to repair it.
If you have refilled ink cartridges, this is problem that can arise due to ink drying on the
print head as the black cartridge is use the most.

HOW TO RESET 920 INK CARTRIDGE ON HP OFFICEJET 6500 AFTER HAVING IT REFILL

FYI, you cannot reset the ink it self. If your using an HP refilled ink cartridge the warranty of your printer will be void. you need to contact HP right away to purchase new ink cartridges.
If the cartridge has been refilled or remanufactured, 'Low on Ink' or 'Ink Alert' messages may be inaccurate or display incorrectly.

Why can i not install my lexmark 6500 series to my Mac

Lexmark 6500 Series (WiFi) Mac Driver can be located and installed as a previously set up printer if you used it with another computer or OS:
http://support.lexmark.com/index?page=downloadFile&actp=CONTENT&productCode=LEXMARK_X6575&id=DR20481&segment=DOWNLOAD&userlocale=EN&locale=en&oslocale=en_US&osVendor=MACINTOSH&osCats=Mac+OS+X+10.6
Driver Download from web, same as a CD: 6500 Series Web Installer.dmg
I hope this will solve the problem. If you have a problem go to the Applications folder/ Lexmark for the wireless set up. You will need the printers print cable, USBed to your computer and follow the directions. Good luck.

How do I change ink cartridge on my HP inkjet 6500 wireless printer.

Hi, When using refilled print cartridges, the Estimated Ink level and the Printer Status Window may indicate that the print cartridge is out of ink. Either continue to use the print cartridge until print quality degrades, or replace the print cartridge with a new HP print cartridge.

The methods of replacing the ink cartridge of the printer follows here:
Open the printer cover
The printer ink carriage will automatically goes to center
Once the carriage is in the center, the printer was ready to replace the ink.
Pull the down slowly the ink tank off the carriage..
Remember the place where the color/black position.
Remove each tank one at a time, and replace the ink with a new one.
Close the printer cover and it now ready to printer.

I bought re-inked cartridge for Lexmark It didn't work

Yes, Lexmark has been making their new printers smarter to reject refilled cartridges. Most likely what is happening is your printer is turning off the electronics on the cartridge when it gets empty so you can't reuse that cartridge. I own a Cartridge World printer cartridge refilling store and I've even had customers return original Lexmark cartridges because their printers have rejected them. If you want to be able to refill your cartridges never buy a Lexmark printer. HP printers that use integrated print head cartridges can be refilled nicely.

Lexmark X2530 won't accept re-inking of cartridges

This is a trick that is used on some of the HP printers. Try this, you will need at least 3 maybe 4 cartridges. The printer stores the chip ID in memory for the last 2 or 3 cartridges installed, so, take an old cartridge number 1 and install in the printer, reset power. Next step, take old cartridge 1 out and install old cartridge 2 in, let it come to ready or tell you to replace empty, then install your refilled cartridge. You just have to remove from its memory the chip ID of the refilled cartridge. You can fool it by doing this each time you refill. Can't guarantee this will work with lexmark, but it does work with HP.
Hope this helps,
