Hi,
It depends on the issue. If the issue is driver related, we can fix it. If the issue has something to do with dried refill inks on the print head, we can try cleaning the printhead with alcohol. If it doesn't fix the problem then you need to replace it with all original Lexmark cartridges which is always recommended.
Well, unlike Lexmark we always do refund if customer is not satisfied with or no solution is available. Check what I did to mine.
Use clear tape over left hand row of sensors on front of cartridge and re-insert. Ink will now show with question mark but reads as full and prints fine. I hope it works, if not then we will refund it to you.
That's how Lexmark business goes. They wanted to sell more inks than printers. The software thing, I haven't heard of it. If you know the name of the program, perhaps, I can help you look for it.
Is it the left side down that you covered? Here's the detailed instruction on to do it correctly.
Tape the 4 vertical connectors on the left side :''Use clear tape over left hand row of sensors on front of cartridge and re-insert. ink now shows with question mark but reads as full and prints fine''.
Yes, that's it, did it make no different at all.
What happened sir?

Drivers are current. I have cleaned printhead already. No help. I believe problem has to do with Lexmark software designed tp prevent use of non-Lexmark cartridges. If you know of no solution other than use of Lexmark cartridges, pls. refund my $15. Thanks.
After doing this with the black cartridge, it prints only in color.
There are actually 5 vertical "connectors" on this cartridge on both the right and left hand sides.
I assume you are referring to the Left side as the cartridge is inserted into the printer and not to the Left side as it is facing you.
Also, I tried covering just the top 4 connectors on the left side (as it is inserts into printer) and that made no difference.
Not sure if you gor all of my last reply. I asked if it's the left side as the cartridge fits into the printer.
There are 5 vertical connectors on both right and left sides (although 4 are clearly grouped together). I taped just the 4 on that side in that grouping, and it made no difference at all. Still prints in color only.
With those 4 connectors covered by the clear tape, it won't print anything in black (the covered cartridge).
If you have no further suggestions, pls. refund my $15.

Not sure you got my last reply. I had repeated that the clear cellophane tape trick made no difference except that the printer could not recognize the presence of the black (taped) cartridge and that, if you had no further suggestions, I would appreciate a refund of my $15 fee. Pls. advise. Thanks.
I have made 2 requests for a refund since your solution was of no help. Today, I discovered that my Visa was charged the $15 yesterday (9/1/11), AFTER those requests were made and apparently ignored. I am copying your previous relavent comment here:
