Black & Decker Toaster, model 3550: Pressing the handle down to lower the bread and start the toasting doesn't lock in place anymore. The toaster will toast, but you have to hold the handle down so...

The fact that pressing down the lever fails, means the toaster contact will not function and can not be repaired. Since a two slice toaster is only $15 at Target, why bother fixing a toaster?

When i push down the lever it doesn't stay down

remove the housing & you will probably notice the 2 ceramic pieces are burned out. (They maybe plastic) But these are the 2 pieces and the 2 long metal contact points that come together when the lever is pushed down. The 2 metal contact strips come together & make the eletronic connection to start the heating process. let me know if you find the parts.

I just bought this kenmore 2 slice toaster and the toast lever won't stay down!?

Make sure it is set dark enough. Some toasters will not stay down if they are set too light.

Toaster does not stay held down to toast wct 708

there is a "contact switch" that when there is power in the system, it stays down. If hte contact switch is bad, it releases and will not stay down. COntact switch needs to be replaced, unfortuantely I have the same problem and can't seem to get the part.

Toaster lever wont stay down

Open the toaster up and look inside by the levers, there should be a little piece that will keep the lever down, if this is missing, then you may need to replace the toaster, if not, then the little piece may be stuck, you can use the following to try and loosen it up,
1. WD-40

The level of the toaster doesn't lock

I doubt if you can fix this without taking the unit apart. Usually it is not that difficult to remove the cover. Unplug the unit. Turn the toaster upside down and remove the screws holding the outside case on. The case usually slides off or by springing the bottom of the sides out you should be able to remove it. Once the cover is off it should be easy and obvious to fix the problem you described. When you have the unit secured reverse the order to assemble the unit and you should be back in business. Good luck.
