Lock-up My notebook periodically freezes up; sometimes within minutes, somtimes within hours. I have read in many forums that this is a common problem with this machine, but I've not run across any real solutions or even definite causes for this problem. The processor is AMD Athlon 1.5Ghz with 512Mb ram.

There is a known issue with these laptops that casues the CPU to not cool correctly. There was a fix supplied by Compaq that helps, but doesn't always totally correct the problem. This kit currently listed on Ebay under item #6862252317 Have you upgraded the memory? This can also cause issues, even when you use original Compaq ram. If you have, try running it without the upgrade and see if the lockups still occur.

There are two boards that I would be checking, the power supply often has bulging capacitors that need to be replaced, the second concern is the inverter board has usually two three that need to be addressed, 'very common problems" the inverter energizes the back lights.

Kenmore top-freezer fridge makes a loud grinding noise for different periods of time - sometimes for 10 seconds and sometimes for 5+ minutes; and sometimes it won't happen for a week and other times it...

Remove the back wall of freezer. If the coils are frost solid youll need to advance the defrost timer(top inside refrige part) w/ a small flat screw driver, the defrost heater should glow red within a good minute. also youcan turn blade to be sure it is bracked and unobstructed.

How could stop my phone from freezing?

Try reflashing it, although you need to backup contacts and other contents first before doing so,. Whats also nice with reflashing is it speeds up your phone and adds nifty features and nicer themes.

Lock-up

If you can control + alt + delete and start over, then it may/may not work, then they're probably right and it's a software problem and not a hardware problem like overheating.

The first thing I would do is turn off all background programs. Here's how you do it:
Start
Run
Type "msconfig"
Hit 'Enter'
Go to the 'startup' tab
Click 'disable all'
I'd go back up the list at this point and recheck 'touchpad' if it's there. There often is such a thing on a laptop.
Click 'OK'
Restart the computer
When the computer starts back up, you'll have to check a box that appears that says you changed some system setting (or some such), just check and continue. You won't see it again unless you repeat the above process.

See if you continue to lockup.

If you don't, then you know one of those programs in that startup menu is causing the problem. You can repeat the above process and turn them on one by one (as opposed to disable all) (or leave them all off for a faster, smoother running machine!) if you want to and figure out what was causing the problem.
