Check the USB connection
The icon on the USB cable (c01424575.gif ) faces up when the cable connects to the product correctly. Check the back of your product and the back of your computer to make sure the USB cable connects correctly and securely.
After you make sure the USB cable connects correctly and securely, review the following guidelines to check other potential USB-related problems:

  • USB ports on the keyboard. USB ports on the keyboard and in the front of some computers might not be powerful enough to support the product. If the USB cable connects to the USB port on the keyboard, try connecting it to another available USB port on the computer.
  • USB cable length. HP supports USB cables less than 5 m (16 feet, 5 inches) long. However, a USB cable that is 5 m (16 feet 5 inches) long must be of high quality. Otherwise, HP recommends using a USB cable that is less than 2 m (3 feet, 3 inches). Do not use patch cables to increase the length of an existing cable. Use a powered USB hub if you need more length.
  • Alternate USB ports. Connect the USB cable to another port on the computer to make sure that the USB port on the computer is not the cause of the problem.
  • Defective USB cable. Replace the USB cable to make sure that the existing cable is not defective.
  • Conflicting USB ports. Disconnect any other USB printers, USB scanners, USB cameras, and any other USB connected peripherals. Start reconnecting these devices one at a time to determine if one of the devices is using too much power. Consider purchasing and installing a powered USB hub if necessary. NOTE: A USB-powered hub is a device that increases the number of available USB ports on a computer and facilitates communication between the USB devices and the computer. A powered USB hub can resolve communication failures between some, but not all, USB chipsets and HP products.

Iomega eGo 1TB USB 3.0 Portable portable harddisk 500GB. while connected to PC show an error on desktop "insufficient power on USB hub port" . pls suggest

Few different things are possibilities.
1. Are you connecting the device via USB 3.0 to the USB 3.0 adapter on the computer? 2. Try switching out your USB 3.0 cable for a different one. 3. If you are using the USB 2.0 instead. Make sure you are using the USB Y cable for the device and not just a standard USB 2.0 straight cable. Using the USB Y cable. Plug the cable into the device first, then make sure to plug both USB's into the computer starting with the short side USB then the longer side USB second. Also try using the USB's on the back side of the computer as they will supply more power than the USB's on the front of the computer.

MY WEBCAM INTEX IT-305 WEB CAM IS NOT RECOGNIZED ON MY USB PORT EVEN AFTER INSTALLING THE DRIVER. ERROR ON CONNECTING IT TO USB PORT IS WINDOWS CANNOT RECOGNIZE THE DEVICE CONNECTED TO THE USB .

It sounds like you have a USB port(s) problem. Did you check them in Device Manager to see if they work ok? Did you try a different usb cable? You surely need Windows Service Packs installed in order to get USB 2.0 compatibility and speed. Without the service packs you will only get USB 1.1 compatibility and speed. But of course, the USB controller must be a USB 2.0 Controller before it can attain USB 2.0 compatibility and speed. There is no software that will make a USB 1.1 controller a USB 2.0 Controller. If your current USB controller is only 1.1 compatible, you will need to obtain a high speed USB 2.0 controller card or bus card. The easy way to tell if the current installed usb controller is 2.0 is to open Device Manager and click the + button next to USB Controllers. If you see the word "enhanced" anywhere beneath, then the controller is a USB 2.0 controller.

What is the version of the usb port on a compaq presario 1200

Hi again, after extensively searching I believe your Laptop has a USB version 2.0.

Most PC's manufactured before 2001 were USB 1.0 and USB 1.1.

The Spec Guides for your PC indicate 2002 was the year of manufacture.

USB 2.0 is a faster USB connection than version 1.0 or 1.1. You might have trouble connecting devices that are USB 2.0 (which all new devices are now - since 2001).

To double check, use your Device Manager on the PC to look up the USB device and see what is written.

If you are using XP then do the following:

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click Control Panel
  4. In the Control Panel double-click the Systems icon.
  5. In the System Properties window click the Hardware tab.
  6. In the Hardware tab click the Device Manager button and you will see a list of devices.
  7. Click the + button next to the word the Universal Serial Bus controllers.
If it is USB 2.0 then it should say something like USB Enhanced or USB High Speed, this means it is USB 2.0 compatible.

I hope this helps. Please rate. Regards,

I replaced the USB adapter chord and know there's not enough power to run the drive. I think I need a DC adapter, 5V, 1A, that fits the drive.

If you get an error message "Insufficient power to operate USB device" when you plug in a USB device into the computer's USB port then this device is drawing power that the USB port can supply.
In case such as this, you need to purchased a powered USB hub and connect this hub into the computer's USB port and then connect the USB device into this powered USB hub.

USB taking too long to transfer vista

Note that USB ports (in your computer) and USB devices can either be "USB 1" or "USB 2" speeds.

While "USB 2" to "USB 2" connections are up to 480 Mbits/second,
any "USB 1" to "USB 2", or "USB 1" to "USB 1", connections,
will max-out at only 11 Mbits/second.

So, check that you have a "USB 2" device.
then check that you are connecting to a "USB 2" port on your computer.

Give more details about your computer, and your USB device.

Usb 1.1 & usb 2.0

USB 1.1 allowed a maximum transfer rate of 12Mbits/second. USB mice and keyboards need only 1.5Mbits/s to function. That performance level is also named 'USB'.
USB 2.0 has a raw data rate at 480Mbps, and it is rated 40 times faster than its predecessor interface, USB 1.1, which tops at 12Mbps. Originally, USB 2.0 was intended to go only as fast as 240Mbps, but then, USB 2.0 Promoter Group increased the speed to 480Mbps in October 1999.
You can use USB device with USB 1.0, USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 as long as your PC or laptop has USB ports, but USB 2.0 device transfer data at 480 Mbps on systems with USB 2.0 support only.

USB Drive

Make sure you are matching the compatibility of USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 between the devices (computer and USB devices).

USB 1.1 device will work in USB 1.1 and USB 2.0, but USB 2.0 devices will not work in USB 1.1 plug in the computer.

How many USB ports do you have in the computer? Which ones have you tried other pen drives in? List the USB ratings for each device and port in the computer to further help.

Have the other USB devices been formatted with other computers? The formatting on other systems might not be compatible.
