Hi mizzdramapri,

I would attempt a Repair, which will update the firmware and restore the unit to factory settings.

For more information on this product, including FAQ's and manuals, visit: http://ow.ly/6j8Gd.

Hope this helps - if so, let me know by rating this solution!

Here are instructions for the Repair:

IMPORTANT: Please back up data in the player before performing a repair.

  1. When your player is locked up or seems dead, you may connect to your PC to repair the device with the Device Manager.
  2. Launch Philips Device Manager at Start > Programs > Philips Digital Audio Player > SA2xxx > Philips SA2xxx Device Manager on your PC.
  3. Connect your player to the PC.
  4. Device Manager should acknowledge your player and automatically go into recovery mode.
  5. Follow the instructions given by Device Manager to proceed.
  6. After the player has been repaired, click OK and disconnect your PC.
  7. The player is ready for use again after restart.

Downloaded song will not play on player, not will if plugged into pc

Song format for that song to be compatible with your mp3 player is wrong, when downloading songs make sure they are always in an mp3 format.

Most of my songs say unknown and the songs won't work

You might have multiple issues. On the one hand, the songs you have tried to load could be in the wrong format - I know that the specs say that it reads WMA's, but there are many, many asterisks behind it's WMA playback ability. I would only load songs in Mp3 format.

Additionally, your DB is corrupt. Download the newest version of the Philips Device Manager for your model # at www.usasupport.philips.com, and then click the "Update" function once it is installed. The update wil lresolve your issue.

My phillips gogear 4 gb is frozen

Sounds like a DB corruption. First, back up your songs if you don't already have a back up. You can do this by connecting the Philips to the PC and back up your songs by double-clicking on My Computer, double-clicking on the Philips icon (some computers may not say "Philips" - they will call the mp3 player a "Removable Drive"), and double-clicking the music folder. Create a temporary folder on your desktop, and drag the music files over to the temporary folder.

Once all of your songs are backed up, update the firmware for your player by downloading the most recent version of the Philips Device Manager from Philips' website (make sure you get the one for your exact model), and clicking on the Update tab.

You should be good to go after that.
