I have two Dell Optiplex Gx280's with the CRN-8245Bs installed. Both are displaying the same problem. I am using the same cd media to burn disks via Iomega Hotburn software. Some of the disks are working fine and others are not working in the drive. The cd-rom is cannot read anything on the cd. I can take the cd to a completely different machine and it is read fine. Any suggestions? Thanks....
Thanks for the suggestion... After more thought and troubleshooting, I discovered that the PCs had a vendor installed program that was conflicting with the software burning program that I am using. I uninstalled the vendor's software and problem resolved. Thanks for the suggestion...

You will need to obtain a Dell Windows XP installation CD. Unfortunately, these discs cannot be bought from the local computer store, but you may have luck posting a request on Craigslist.
No compatibility problem in your case. XP should work well with Dell optiplex gx280. Try re-installing the OS, there is problem with the OS version you had used to install.Rate me if it is useful!!
Confirm no leaking or bulging capacitors on your mothboard. refer to here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague
As this was a common problem with the GX280. If found, you will need to replace the capacitors.
The other check is to make sure the heatsink is fitted correctly, perhaps reaply the thermal paste if you have any. I know that high temps would switch the GX280 off.
Hi, if the PC's are older than 3 years or the cdrom drives are near it's end of life, it will make problems to read some CDR's. If you recorded the CD's you are trying to read, try recording at less than 4X speed. Sometimes, even "original" or "silver" CD's will make problems because they are not recorded correctly at the factory. If the problem is with a CDRW drive, it applies the same theory, the recording laser is damaged or used up. It will not record a legible CD or DVD even if the software says that the record operation ended successfully.
