Question about IBM ThinkPad 600 Notebook
IBM ThinkPad T42 1.7GHz Laptop with DVD/CD-RW PC svp password

Set the BIOS to boot a floppy first, see if you can load a boot floppy. If not, then you have a serious hardware problem, did you change any settings in the BIOS? You may need to bring it to a shop for service. If you are able to boot, then you have a hard drive problem. Check your detection settings, and download and run a drive diagnostic tool from the hard drive manufacturer to see if the drive has failed. It wouldn't hurt to reseat the cabling either.

SOURCE: asking password before booting
Sounds like somebody installed a hard drive password, and there is no way to get around it but to replace the hard drive and start over.

SOURCE: I CANNOT BOOT MY IBM THINKPAD 2367..HELP
Both errors are related to the backup battery which is located under
the main battery. It is probably dead. You can get one on
eBay for $3.29 w/free shipping or pay a shop $20 to put one
in. If you do it yourself be very gentle plugging it into the
tricky little slot - it is possible to break the connector loose from
the motherboard but it is an easy repair if you have patience and
dexterity. As for the password, try just hitting enter. It
is the supervisor password to change the BIOS settings and was probably
never set.
Hope this helps.
