Check if the aperture is set on anything other than 22. This would generate an error message. the N50 (and other auto Nikon cameras) needs to have the lens aperture set to the smallest -- AutoFocus lenses have a lock on them to lock the aperture at the smallest. Some models, such as the N5, can be set to use either the lens' aperture ring or the camera's command dial to set the aperture, but most simpler Nikon auto cameras can only be set by the camera. Setting the lens to its smallest aperture tells the camera that it can control the lens. If the lens is set to anything else than the smallest aperture, F-- shows up on the camera's LCD, and the camera locks up. Check your camera manual for complete info.

Putting lens on Nikon N50

Hi jbentivolio, your question is not clear. What is the issue? Will the lens not go on the camera. Make sure the lens is a Nikon lens, if not make sure the lens has a Nikon mount as a lens designed for another camera vendor will not fit on a Nikon. Without special adaptors lens are not interchangeable between vendors.

(E) flashing err on Nikon N50, tried everything I can think of.

The lens aperture ring will need to be set to the largest number, and locked to that point. This allows the camera to control the aperture as it needs. If you have changed lenses to something other than what came with the camera this could also be the problem. Again make sure the aperture is set on the largest number and the problem should go away.
