The only way to see video files from the comp on the 360 is to stream the files You can do this only if u got Windows Media Center And if so the only formats it plays are: , DVR-MS, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 WMV So if you want to see movies in other formats you got to convert them first Good luck

How to update your xbox360

The easiest way to update your console software is to connect to Xbox LIVE. To update your console by using Xbox LIVE, all you need is an Internet connection.
  1. Connect your Xbox 360 console to the Internet. To learn how, please see Connecting to Xbox LIVE.
  2. On the console, go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.
  3. Select Network Settings.
  4. Select Wired Network or the name of your wireless network, if you are prompted to do so.
  5. Select Test Xbox LIVE Connection.
If you cannot connect your Xbox 360 console to the Internet, you can copy the console update from your computer to a USB flash drive and then install it on the console.
Note: The USB flash drive must use the FAT32 file system.
  1. Plug your USB flash drive into a USB port on your computer.
  2. Download the update file.
  3. Click Save to save the console update .zip file on your computer.
  4. Unzip the file. If you are using Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7, double-click the .zip file to unzip it.
  5. Copy the contents of the .zip file to the root directory of your flash drive.
  6. Unplug the USB flash drive from your computer.
  7. Plug the flash drive into a USB port on your Xbox 360 console.
  8. Restart the console.
  9. When the console restarts, the installation program starts automatically. Select Yes when you are prompted to update the new console software.

You can update your Xbox 360 console software by downloading the update to your computer from Xbox.com, burning the update to a CD or DVD, and then installing the update on your console. Here's how:
  1. On your computer, download the update file.
  2. Click Save to save the console update .zip file on your computer.
  3. Unzip the file. If you are using Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7, double-click the .zip file to unzip it.
    • If you are using Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7, double-click the .zip file to unzip it.
    • If you are using an earlier version of Microsoft Windows, you need to use a special software program to unzip the file (for example, WinZip).
  4. Insert a blank, writeable CD or DVD into your computer.
  5. Copy the contents of the .zip file to the root directory on your CD or DVD, and choose to write (burn) the files to the disc.
  6. Once the files have been burned to disc, remove that disc from your computer and insert it into the disc drive on your Xbox 360 console.
  7. Restart the console.
  8. When the console restarts, the installation program starts automatically. Select Yes when you are prompted to update the new console software.

Somehow my xbox 360,s hard drive blocked itself and i cant remember the reset code so now i cant play games or watch videos or pistures so now im helpless now im looking at a blank xbox dashboard

Without the code the only thing to do is buy a transfer cable from eBay copy all of your stuff and then format the drive plug the drive back into the 360 let it set it up then go back to your computer and copy your stuff back on.

My son has been using someone else's xbox 360 and set up an account. I have now bought him his own how does he transfer his account

Once he starts up the new console, go to the main menu... you want to select "recover a profile". He will have to enter his info like email, password, etc. and then the profile/account will automatically transfer over to the new console. It's really easy.

Can i download a xbox 360 game to my computer then transfer it to disc

Not without modding your Xbox 360. The only thing you can transfer from your computer to the 360 is music, videos/movies and Dashboard Updates.

Hope this helps,

Xbox 360 modding

You cannot transfer files to the Xbox 360, you can only stream the material eg songs or videos through it. You can put the items you wish to view on a usb memory stick, but again you cannot save them to your XBox 360 only play direct from the device you use to store the videos or music. You will also need XP media centre to use the media extender software, or even better Vista premium, XP home or Pro will not share the material with XBox because it cannot use the extender software.

Information from computer to 360

The only way to watch video files from the computer to the 360 is to stream them, which can only be done if you have Windows Media Center. Even then, the only formats that it would play are DVR-MS, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and WMV. So if you want to watch movies that are in quicktime, divx, avi formats or any other, you would first have to convert them into the supported formats.
