I assume you have tried turning the volume up during a call? if so and the volume is all the way up and nothing is coming out, try plugging headphones in to check that there is sound that way. If there is, remove the headphones and that may fix the problem itself as phones can get confused "thinking" there are headphones in when there aren't.

Well, my lg chocolate touch model (VX8575) got the speaker clogged up with melted chocolate. i cannot hear phone calls, nor can i hear any sounds coming from that speaker. but when i plug in earbuds, they...

The first solution would be to try to remove all the chocolate from the speaker. This may include opening the phone case and cleaning the speaker directly. Note, this will void any manufacturer's warranty.
Chances are that the speaker is no longer working at all. It has most likely been damage too severely. If you can handle using only the earbuds, than that may be the best solution. This model phone also has bluetooth, so you can use a bluetooth accessory as well. Unfortunately, it appears that your speaker is beyond the point of being saved.

easiest way to solve this problem. go to call settings and TTY mode. and switch it to TTY + talk ... if that doesnt work then fiddle around with the other TTY settings untill it does. this disables the earpiece

Lg chocolate

You should be able to turn the earpiece sound up, but on some phone this can only be done during a call.
