Hi
The parallel cable is a clue.
The main problem will be installing the software and drivers for the device in XP.
This scanner is unlikely to be compatible with XP.
See here:

It was designed for win 95, Win 98 & Win 2000.
Most similar devices for XP and later operating systems will take USB cables. Indeed most modern computers do not even have a parallel port.
I hope this helps.
According the website this unit was manufactured in 1999 and uses a USB 1.1 (1st Generation)connection to your computer, being made before XP it may be questionable that it would work on your XP system.
Recommend connecting the scanner to your XP computer and see if XP can detect and load drivers, plus make sure installed software can connect to the scanner and perform scans.
First you would need to make sure you have a parallel port on your computer, because if you don't, you would need to get an adapter of some sort for either a p2p or usb port, whichever you prefer. I'm not sure if you can get a parallel cable from the manufacture, but you could probably find it on eBay. With an older scanner and a newer computer, you can probably just plug it in and it will work, but if you need the software, go here: http://www.nodevice.com/driver/320P/get25293.html
Hope this helps!
