Inner fan is working all the time in order to cool off the electronic units, but you may wanna try checking for overheating. this can resault of: - air hole too close to the wall, or jammed by something. - working enviroment is too hot. room temperature and so. - dust and dirt accumulated on the fan, or heatsinc. you can clean it with a vacum cleaner or compressed air.

2000 durango cooling system fan running non-stop

Many engine control system faults can cause the radiator cooling fan to come on and run non-stop. Also, if your A/C is on or if you have your heating and cooling controls in DEFROST mode, this can cause the radiator cooling fan to come on (normal operation). Or there could be a cooling fan circuit malfunction (like a stuck relay) causing this to happen.

Check to see what mode your climate controls are in. If the climate controls are not in A/C or DEFROST modes, then you should have your engine control system properly diagnosed to determine the cause of the radiator fan being on continuously.

Also, if the Check Engine light is on, this is a clue that the engine control system is malfunctioning.

the electric cooling fan for the radiator will not turn on when the engine reaches normal operating temp, its only supposed to come on if the engine temp goes over the normal temp. (around 220 degrees)
it is normal for the fan to come on any time the a/c or defroster is turned on.

Fan

Mine started do this recently as well. I think my belts need replacing. I believe this is what needs to be changed in order for the fan to stop over working.

Fan stopped

If the fan has stopped, then the processor will overheat. Most vendors have protection so that a non-working fan is detected and the unit will not power up with detecting its rotation. Seems like a repair shop job I'm afraid.
