InstructablesOkay, first things first: I find the d-pad on the 360 wireless controller to be a mushy mess. ... hits the contacts on the circuit board) and the bottom of the d-pad's contact ... All we're going to do is add a very thin layer between the membrane and the ... controllers, pressing right will for example register as down-right, and so on.
Turn off both the console and the controller, then follow these steps:
Turn on both the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller and the Xbox 360 console.
On the console, press the connect button. (to the immediate right of the memory card slot on the console)
On the controller, press the connect button. (Look on top of the controller for a small button.)
The green lights that surround the Guide button on the controller and the power button on the console spin and flash when the controller is being connected to the console. After the controller is connected, a single green light illuminates on the controller and on the console to show you which quadrant the controller is connected to.
not sure on what cord looks like but there is a port if xbox standing up its on the bottom in a door if thats not there is a USB port on the back of the box
Other than dead batteries, check that the Infrared (IR) unit is plugged into a USB port. The Big Button controllers don't connect to the Xbox 360 like the normal wireless controllers. All four go through that single IR unit which is a wired connection. (Someone once unplugged my IR unit and I had forgotten that is how the Big Button controllers connect to the 360)
I had same problem..if u have a dance pad with foam inserts....take out the insert and try to start up without them....the problem we had is one of the inserts was putting pressure on one of the buttons preventing xbox from reading pad...if u don't have inserts one of your buttons is sticking...give it a shake and try again....we fixed ours by simply rearranging the inserts...hope this was helpful
Possible fix, make sure your contacts are clean, and your cable is not damaged. Obviously the 5v lines are connecting, but no data is getting through. I reccomend using a q-tip to get any grime off, but you may need rubbing alchohol (90% reccomended because it dries cleaner). Clean off the connections on the xbox and the controller. If it still doesnt work, list any extras you have plugged into your controller, and the estimated time you bought the controller.
If all else fails, I've just got a great deal on a MadCatz xbox 360 controller ($25) and its fully functional, minus the controller faceplates if thats your cup-o-tea.
