if you are trying to install through usb then check if the usb you are using is working try to connect a flash drive on the same usb and try of use the other HD on that usb and see if it gets detected if no then uninstall the usb drivers from device manager and restart the system and it will work and it will get instaled automatically
Check the usb port function in the computer bios settings and be sure that it is set to yes. Connect properly your external drive. If it has two wire usb connections, use both to obtain the maximum power that will be need by your drive.
I had this same issue. Found it to be a sequencing issue. Plug the USB into the router with the power off to the HDD. Power on the HDD and you should be able to get to it fine. Also make sure you have the latest firmware on the router.
For that make sure usb cable works fine. Try with different usb cable. Also connect usb cable in different usb ports of computer. Right click on my computer then click on proeperty then hardware->device manager. Then click on sign of usb controllers then uniunstall all usb drivers 1 by 1. then restart computer. Then check. If still not recognized then when you power up the computer press F8 key then enter in safe mode. then check. in normal mode again.sometimes harddisk need to start in safe mode . Let me know if you need more assistance. thanks.

my Buffalo external hard disc can be detected by laptop, but my access is denied. When i click on the hard disc icon, it popped out a message box prompting me to reformat my hard disc. Is there any other way to retrieve my files before reformat or is there any other way to recover my files after reformat? Is there any other way to troubleshoot my hard disc other than reformatting it? Please help me, I am desperate to recover all my files because they are too important/precious to lose it.
I am not really sure but i think the Camara and the External Hard Drive have to be compatible with Apple I think so you can use it. An IPOD is made by Apple so thats why your G4 recognizes it. I would just buy like a USB Drive. And also try to download the Drivers also and you can do that by google-ing it that sort of think. Anyways just use a windows based computer Bro its much more efficient. Let me know how it goes alright.
