My Router's power light is blinking. How do I fix this?

This is caused by the firmware not loading correctly. Follow the steps below to fix this. 1. You will need to gain Internet access to download the latest firmware for your router. The firmware must be present on the computer that will do the upgrade. Temporarily bypass the router and plug directly into your Internet Service Provider?s modem to gain access, or use another location other than your own to get to the Internet and download the firmware. 2. Download the latest firmware for your Router from http://www.linksys.com/download/firmware.asp. Select the model number of the Linksys router you have. Be sure to select the correct router version (BEFSR41 V3), as firmware upgrades vary by version. 3. Click the ?Get Upgrade? button. 4. After the firmware page opens, click the link that says, ?Click here to download the latest firmware...? and download the firmware file. Once you download the Zip file, unzip it and extract all files. If you do not have an unzipping program, go to http://www.winzip.com and download WinZip, which will allow you to unzip the file. Before performing the upgrade, assign your computer a static IP address. For more information, please see Answer ID 534 for instructions. If using a 10/100-network adapter, change its speed to 10Mb, half duplex. For instructions on doing so: Windows 95/98/ME 1. At the Windows desktop, click on Start then choose Settings and click on Control Panel. 2. Double click the Network icon. This will bring up the ?Network Configuration? window. 3. Locate and highlight the icon with the green logo for your network adapter and click Properties. 4. This will display the network adapter's Properties. 5. Select the Advanced tab and click Connection Type (this may also appear as Media Type, Connection Speed, Mode, Link Speed, etc). The current default value should be set to "Auto sense" or "Auto". 6. Change the value of this option to 10Base-t, half duplex mode (usually the lowest possible option). The wording of this value may also vary, depending upon the make and model of the Network Adapter. Other possibilities include 10T half, 10Mb half duplex, 10Mbps half, etc. 7. Once this has been changed, click OK to return to the Network configuration screen. 8. Click OK again and Windows will ask to restart your computer. Click ?Yes? to restart. Windows 2000/XP 1. Go to Start click on Run and type in control ncpa.cpl. 2. Double click on the Local Area Connection that controls your network card. 3. Click Properties under Local Area connection status. 4. Click the Configure button. Then, click on the Advanced Tab. 5. Click Connection Type (this may also appear as Media Type, Connection Speed, Mode, Link Speed, etc). The current default value should be set to "Auto sense" or "Auto". 6. Change the value of this option to 10Base-t, half duplex mode (usually the lowest possible option). The wording of this value may also vary, depending upon the make and model of the Network Adapter. Other possibilities include 10T half, 10Mb half duplex, 10Mbps half, etc. 7. Click OK after you made the change then click Close. Reloading the firmware 1. First, hold the reset button located on the back of the router for 30 seconds. 2. Next, to test communication between the Router and the network card: Go to Start, and select Run. Type in command and press [Enter ]. This will bring up the MS-DOS prompt window. 3. Type ping 192.168.1.1 and press [Enter ]. 4. You should get the following results: Pinging 192.168.1.1 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128 Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128 Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128 Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL= 128 5. Once you get these replies, close out of the command prompt by typing in exit and pressing [Enter ]. 6. You may now proceed to upgrade the router?s firmware with the files that were downloaded. 7. Once the upgrade is complete, the router's Power light should no longer be blinking. Note: Be sure to go back to your network card settings (from the steps above) and change the speed of the link back to ?Auto sense? or ?Auto? (the original default setting) to restore full speed to the adapter. Linksys e3000 blinking power light

The Linksys router may blink or flash when there are connection issues or hardware problems. The solutions for fixing the Linksys router flashing orange problem are given below.
All Lights Blinking Except Power And Wi-Fi Light:
Change the router's power connection to another electrical outlet to check if it fixes the blinking problem.
If the lights don't stop flashing, remove the power cord and connect a new genuine power cord.
If the light stops flashing, it is an output power source issue.
If the router's firmware is corrupted, the Linksys router's power light keeps on blinking; you cannot access the router's web setup page.
Step 1: Power cycling the Linksys's router
To power cycle, the Linksys router, unplug the power cord from the power source and remove the cable from your router.
Remove all the cables and connections from the router and replug them for solving Linksys router power light blinking.
Connect the power cord after 30 seconds and turn on the router.
Step 2: Pinging the Linksys router
Since there is an issue with assigning the IP addresses to the devices connected to it, ping the Linksys router and check the network connection of the router for solving Linksys router flashing.
Open the Command Prompt window and enter ping and type the IP address of the router.
Follow the responses and fix the Linksys router blinking issue.
Step 3: Reset the router
You can fix the router's blinking issue easily; however, if the Linksys router blinking red light, the router issue can't be fixed
Ensure that your computer is connected only to the Linksys router and not connected to your modem directly while solving Linksys router power light blinking.
Locate the reset button on the rear side of the router. Using a pin, press and hold the button for about 30 seconds to solve Linksys router flashing.
Unplug the power cable and replug it after 10 seconds.
Step 4: Update the firmware
If the power has not stopped blinking, and you can't access the router's web page, update the router's firmware to avoid Linksys router flashing issue.
Ensure that you have an active internet connection to update the Linksys router's firmware.
Open your browser and go to the official Linksys website.
Navigate to the router's support website.
In the search panel, enter the model number of your Linksys router and press Enter.
Select the Downloads/ Firmware tab on the router's page and click on the Download Software link for solving Linksys router blinking.
Choose the hardware version of your router and download the firmware.
Open the installer file and update the firmware of the router from your computer.
Internet light blinking:
Check your internet connection from the Internet Service provider.
Check all the network connection cables, whether Linksys router power light blinking is properly fixed.
Reboot your router and modem to stop the Linksys router flashing.

Indication of Router Lights:
  • Power light blinks. If LAN or WAN cable is plugged in, their respective lights will flash on activity.
  • Power light turns off for several seconds.
  • All lights, except power light, turn on and then off.
  • Power light blinks slowly, then faster, and WLAN light will turn on.
  • Once Power light and WLAN light are on solid, the router is fully rebooted.

A working router should show solid green power light. upgrade the firmware of the router.

Befsr41 ports will not light up

Please try to reset your router by holding the reset button for 30 secs. After 30 secs release the reset button. Than take the power cable out of your router and plug it back in after 30 secs. If the lights are stable than its ok, else your router has gone bad.

have you done a chat with Linksys? What do you use to manage your network?

May I suggest you get Network Magic, a free download and eval period.

Using Network Magic, you may find you have settings on the router that prevent your getting past your 'fire wall'.

When I turn on my BEFSR41 the POWER and PORT #4 lights up even though nothing is connected to it yet... what seems to be the problem?... is it defective?

If you are using the Uplink port, this may cause port 4 to show active. Disconnect the Uplink cable to see if the light goes out. If it doesn't, then yes, it sounds like you may have a bad port on your router.

Power problem

sounds like your faithfull router has finnaly had enough and need to be put to rest, if it lasted that long thats one good router, id say go out and treat yourself to another faithfull router, i had mine last me about 4 years before a firmware update disabled it for the time being untill i get around to fixing it

If the power light keeps blinking it means that the router has reached its end point or else you have short circuited the board, or the router is reached up to the maximum whereby it has totally failed. The best would be to replace that router now or try to use a software named tftp to get into the router interface if it is possible then upgrade the firmware/ You can get tftp by searching in google.

My linksys router keeps dropping connectivity to the internet

does your router and your landline phone is in one connection in with a splitter..
does connection failed whenever there's a call?
if so your splitter might be broken
or you must insert your phone line with the splitter, it might be in your connection set up..
or make sure your utp cable is stable and not in exposure area of people or pet where it might be touch or something..

It the power light is blinking.. then it seems to be a problem with your router..one thin i can suggest you is .. just unplug the power cable.. and wait for 20 sec and then reconnect it and check.. if still the same , look at the back of your router..you would find a reset button.. press and hold the reset button for 60 sec witha pen or a paper clip with the power connected.. and then disconnect power and wait for 30 sec and reconnect again and then check if still the same ..the your router has gone bad.. better replace your router..if its still in warranty..
