Most of these Aspires have microphones built into the LCD bezel. Look for a tiny pinhole at the top of the LCD bezel. There may even be a small picture of a microphone etches into the plastic at that area.
Go to your speaker icon in your task bar on right hand side and right click then on volume control.
Go to file then select options/properties and then scroll down to the microphone on the show volume controls box and tick it.
The microphone volume slider should now show and make sure the mute is unticked.
