Your 520 was a great machine, it is older and many are worn out. It sounds like a loader problem, you can take the top off and access the loader mechanism, if you remove the inside cover you should be able to pull out the disc.
In all likelyhood the recording head is work out or damaged, so be careful with the disc. Most discs will still work if carefully removed, don't get your fingers, dust or hair in the open shutter space on the disc, it is open when inside the machine or you'll mess it up form being read on another machine.
Since you can still play it try doing an analog copy of it by hooking up the audio out to a DAT, CD or other Minidisc unit capable of recording the songs before you start tinkering with the mechanics, so you'll have a backup.
Good Luck!

What does TOC writing mean on my sony mini hif-fi

TOC(Table of Contents) Information referring to, for example, the table of contents, total numbers, total names, playing time, time, date, data position etc. When a new recording is made on the MiniDisc, the new information is updated.found this on a web site

TOC ERRORa

When you FINISH recording, the Minidisc recorder Writes the TOC (Table of Contents) - so you see it flashing TOC or Update when you finish recording - you need to Leave POWER ON and have the unit on for about 30 seconds for it to finish this. IF you don't, the unit doesn't know where to find the files since there is no TOC. Try a Sony home unit - you might get one more shot at it working with that.

Jb 940 md player. Recording a full disc, always results in playback stopping around 38 mins. previously recorded discs will play back ok, so suspect record process not completing. When played in spare...

When you get done recording, do you wait until the "TOC" light stops flashing? If you cut off power before the Table Of Contents is written, then it can't find all your music. Even if you eject, it should still flash a little red TOC or UPDATE before it spits the disc out. Check for that. okay?

TOC eror

The TOC error is the same error seen on computer disks, TOC is the table of content, this has to be read before the the unit will know the details of tracks etc......

If every disk inserted (not just burned discs) has this error, the laser is faulty or out of alignment. Thanks for using FixYa - a FixYa rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question.

Spontaneous MD erasure

Well, depending how the content was recorded, there may be a slim chance to recover the audio. To me it looks like TOC was not written successfully, effectively deleting the TOC.
You can try TOC cloning with this 'blank' MD using another MD player, but your track markers will be lost during the cloning. If it works, at best you will end up with ONE long track. Then you can edit and reset your track markers.

It may be also be a good idea, to try the JE440 carefully with junk content to make sure it still works ok when writing TOC. You may have an intermittent problem too. I'd be very careful editing MD in this unit until it has been confirmed the TOC writing works ok. You may want to check the over-write head assembly and the cable that connects it. Sometimes these cables develop hairline cracks causing intermittend write action.

Check out www.minidisc.org forum for TOC cloning.

Good luck recovering your audio.

Envoy 2004 cd player

I had same problem with a 2005 Envoy in Jan '09. I took it to the ex-GM dealer. He said he'd try. The unit would only play using radio.
Mechanic took unit out of dash, and top off of unit. Ejected CD bu moving the eject mechanism. Replaced top and unit.
Works and plays cds. Cost $25.00 And i tipped the mechanic $10.00 for his knowledge.

Hts 3450 home theatre system- dvd in player- but won't come out

When a disk is stuck inside the player , try following the procedure below:

Unplug power cord.
Plug back power.
Turn on the unit and press repeatedly the eject button at the same time. If you successeed in ejecting the disk before the player starts reading TOC(disk initial track), then the disk will eject.
If that does not work, then there is an internal fault, in that case the unit must be taken apart to remove the disk.

Mini Disc Not Working

Pull the power cord. Make sure the three-position switch with "REC/Standby/PLAY" is in the middle position, then plug the cord back in. Wait a minute, then press POWER. Now load a disk and wait 1 minute for it to read the Table of Contents (TOC). Either it will show the tracks, or it will say 'empty disk'. Let us know what happens from there, okay?
