Question about Samsung HC-P4241W 42" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

When i turned on my Hc-p4241w i smelled a burning smell then the color started looking 3d, i took a flashlight & looked through the left side of the tv and saw a orange glowing inside and i shut the tv down.Now the color looks 3d.

Your Convergence output is burnt.DONT turn that TV on until convergence IC's are replaced,orange glowing inside that you see it is resistors that overheating and burning.Unplug TV from outlet before more damage is done

Burning Smell inside siemens dishwasher

Most likely the smell is coming from a motor that is having a hard time turning, so it's overheating. Don't run it or it might catch fire!

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

The picture seems to be 3d and pulled toward the uper left, and it smells like something is burning.

Projection TV sets have several common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

Our HC-P4241W has an image displacement(shadow behind everything) and there is a burning smell

trye on the netz entrance it is a transformer near high capacity capacitator need to make big swamp of parts there transformer,capacitator,som resistors you need to megje it all that area

It looks like you have a problem on your convergence panel. Look for burned resistors near the STK-* IC's. One or more of the STK-* IC's may be bad. When the resistors get hot they smell but so do the IC's. You can replace the bad parts or you should be able to replace the entire panel then go thru a convergence alignment.

You dont have to take the armature out to look at the commutator, just remove the brushes (unplug tool first) and get a flashlight and look into the brush tube and slowly turn the shaft by hand and look for a discoloration or unusual look on the comm bars. The slight burned smell might have come from the speed control or the switch itself, but look at comm and then go from there. You can get a breakdown for this tool at Makitausa.com. Burning smell and distorted picture

Can you describe the distorted picture/ Is it out of alignment? Pulled in from the sides or top and bottom? Or does it appear curved and 3D like? Please respond to this same post and I will try and assist you.

HX-P4241W appears yellow. Left and Right of screen are yellow

Yellow is the lack of blue. It can happen when you are running your contrast - which is your overall light level - too high.

Try turning down your contrast. On CRT tech, contrast should always be run at half what the factory allows as full, on the user controls. Full up is what calibrators call Torch Mode, and is NOT the way to get performance to be in the linear operating range of CRT tech.

If your sides are more yellow than your middle, your set may need lenstriping. Mild yellow on the sides is not uncommon, and usually not noticed. But heavy yellow on the sides would indicate that the blue image needs work on white field uniformity.

Yellow is the lack of blue, in CRT tech.

T.V. blurred then died

You will need to replace or have the main convergence amp board replaced or have the main amp ICs replaced. i you have no electronic experience with printed circuit boards, play it safe and call in a pro to assist you with this repair. Good Luck
