There may be a button towards the top of the keyboard (one of the ones with LEDs next to them) that turns the touch pad on and off. Otherwise, there is usually a keyboard combination (the Fn key in the lower left + one of the F1-12 keys) that can toggle it on and off as well. Otherwise, in the lower right hand corner, if you plug in a mouse, you should be able to right click the touchpad icon and re-enable it.

Keyboard unlock

Like most modern laptops, IBM/Lenovo laptops feature a built-in touchpad that you can use as a substitute for an external mouse device. If you experience a non-functional or "locked" touchpad, then you have one of two possible problems; either the touchpad's drivers are corrupt or a user has manually locked the touchpad. In either case, you can unlock your touchpad and restore it to functionality quickly.

Open your web browser and paste the following URL in the address bar:

Click the "Download" button and then click "I agree" to save the Lenovo touchpad driver installation file to your computer. Double-click the EXE file that you downloaded. Doing so opens the driver's installation wizard. Follow the on-screen prompts to re-install your Lenovo's touchpad drivers. If your locked touchpad is due to a corrupt or outdated device driver, then your touchpad is now unlocked and functional. Activate Touchpad Hold the Windows logo key and press the R key to open a run command box. Type "control mouse" in the box and press Enter. The Mouse Properties control panel window opens. Click the "Device Settings" tab. Click the Lenovo Touchpad in the "Devices" list and click the "Enable" button to activate the Touchpad. Click the "OK" button to save your changes. Your Lenovo's touchpad is unlocked and ready for use. Lenovo support

Laptop cursor and pointer out of control (jumps when I type) and pointer gets stuck . How do I fix it ? Acer espire 5349 series

Make sure you don't have the mouse pad locked. Normally there is a button at the top in the middle of the mouse pad that locks or unlocks it. Some models will have you to tap twice in the upper left corner of the touch pad to toggle it from locked to unlocked. Other will have you to Press and Hold the Alt Key or the FN function key located at the lower left portion of the keyboard then hit the key that toggles the touchpad. The key that toggles the touchpad will have the icon of a finger pointing at a square which represents the touchpad.

Try going into the Touchpad settings to make sure you have the Defaults set. Click Start/Control Panel and look for Mouse or Touchpad.

Reinstall the touchpad drivers.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Samsung Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Download and install the drivers.

Maybe your touchpad mouse has been hijacked by a virus or infection.
Get into safe mode and see how it functions.

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFE MODE. Take the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. Safe Mode will look different to you, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, this is normal.
If the cursor behaves in Safe Mode repeat the process to boot into safe mode, but this time select Safe Mode With Networking (this will give you internet connectivity). When it boots up, open your internet browser and download and install MalwareBytes.

Go to www.google.com and in the search box type: "Download cnet Malwarebytes" (without the quotes). Download and install malwarebytes from the sites download.cnet/malwarebytes. When the site opens up click on the Green Download button on the left. Do not click the Red Download button, that's junk. When it finishes installing the Gui Interface will open up with an offer to Accept a Trial Version or Decline. CLICK DECLINE you want the totally free version. Run a QUICK SCAN. As it scans, if it finds infections the number will be in red. When it finishes scanning, click SHOW RESULTS. A notepad text document will open up showing you the results. You can close the text document and go back to the Gui Interface where you will click REMOVE SELECTED RESULTS. The objects will already be selected for you. When it finishes removing the objects click ok and it will sometimes reboot your machine.

Small red light that disables mouse pad

I think you have the Touch Pad disabled. You can toggle the touch pad between enable and disable by a couple of ways depending on the manufacturer. On some at the very top of the touchpad there might be a button in the middle that you can press that toggles the touchpad. On others it might be a sequence of key strokes. For example you might have to Press and Hold the ALT or FN key then hit the corresponding key at the top of the keyboard that toggles it. Most times the correct key to hit will have the icon of a finger pointing at a square area that represents the touchpad.

I found this on your particular model on HPs site. Apparently there is a button or area on the touchpad that is in the upper left hand corner of the touch pad that toggles it on or off.

(1) TouchPad light if Amber: The TouchPad is off.
otherwise The TouchPad is on.
(2) TouchPad on/off button Turns the TouchPad on and off. Quickly double-tap the
TouchPad on/off button to turn the TouchPad on and off.

Here is a link to the document. When it opens up click the Maintenance and Service Guide. It will show you a picture of the Touchpad layout.

How do you unlock the keyboard

Is it that the keyboard is locked so no keys work, or is the touchpad locked so that the mouse pointer does not move?

I've seen more and more people locking the mouse pointer. If that's the case there might be a button to push that is at the top of the touchpad in the middle that toggles it on and off. Also on some brands, you will have to hit either the FN or ALT key and hold it down while you hit the F1 thru F12 key that controls the touchpad. Usually the correct key to press will have the icon of a finger in a square box representing the touch pad.

Mouse pad stalls and i see a little red light on the mouse pad....i have a compaq laptop but not sure what version...how do i disable thi feature so i dont have to use a physical mouse

The little red light is likely from the red LED underneath your optical mouse. If the mouse cursor/pointer on the screen is jerky, it may mean the mouse pad is dirty and/or if the mouse is wireless, its battery is low and should be replaced. Most laptops have a touchpad as part of the keyboard. If you want to use that instead of a physical mouse, just put the physical mouse away and use the touchpad. Both should be active unless the touchpad was disabled. If the touchpad is disabled, you can re-enable it by clicking on control panel > mouse > device settings tab > enable button.

Thin and wide white lines on screen

Yes, your screen most likely is going bad, the only other reason for lines and distortion is a loose data cable that runs up the back of the lcd panel on the left side. For the touchpad, go to the control panel > Mouse > look at the top of the window and look for the device properties. open this tab and look for your touchpad listed. Highlight it and click on the settings button. Go through these settings and make sure that tapping is enabled. Even if it is, you may consider updating the drivers for the touchpad.

The pointer of my touchpad for my fujitsu siemens laptop

Try taking an very lightly moist wipe and cleaning it. If that doesn't work get an ext mouse and uninstall/reinstall the drivers for the mousepad.

START->CONTROL PANEL->SYSTEM->HARDWARE-DEVICE MANAGER
Select the mousepad device and right-click....hit OK
then go to the top of the window and select SCAN FOR NEW HARDWARE.
This should reinstall the device again.

If this doesn't work....try going thru the Mouse options in CONTROL PANEL.

PLEASE VOTE IF THIS IS HELPFUL. GOOD LUCK AND THANKS.

Hold Fn down and press F4 again, that should restore the touchpad. If you want to toggle between screens or projectors you hold down Fn and hit the F key which will have 2 TV symbols on it (it varies from models)
