Re:
You must use the RS-232 serial cable using terminal emulation software such as Microsoft HyperTerminal. Connect the cable from your computer to the console port on the DSL-500 or DSL-504.
Step 1: Go to Start>Programs>Accessories>Communications>Hyperterminal.
Step 2: Enter a name for your connection and choose the default icon selected.
Step 3: Select a COM port (usually 1 or 2) and click OK.
Step 4: The terminal parameters will need to be set to as follows:
Step 5: At the command prompt type isfs cat inituser and press enter. You will now see the username and password.

1st is the USERNAME and Password you use to get into the Router configurations which is the following.
Username: admin
Password: admin
The above username and password is the Factory setting and only the password can be changed by an user. SO if it was not changed the password will still be admin or you can reset the modem to reset the password back to admin.
2nd is the Username and Passsword you get from your Internet Service Provider which usually is the email address and whatever password you gave them to set your internet up
To access the configuration: The default user is 'Administrator' and the password is blank.
Make sure you have your DSL username and password to log into you DSL service. If you don't have it your service provider can give it to you.
If that doesn't work find the reset button on the back. Do not use the front reset. Hold the reset buttion in until the power led flashes red. This should reset the unit back to factory. You will need probably need you DSL username and password to re-configure the router.
i am not sure what king of network you may have.. if you have DSL make sure that you have a DSL filter on the phone jacks, next make sure that the router or DSL is seeing green lights called DSL / Power / Ethernet is more likely standing light, next you will see green light flashing / that called Internet.
and rule number one make sure that your user name and password is right. make sure that there no space or some thing that should not be in the password or user name.. if you need more help i am glade to help you more out
Reset
Pressing the Reset button for 5 seconds restores the router to its original factory default settings.
Log in to the Router
This section will explain how to log in to your router using the following steps:
1. Launch your web browser.
2. Enter the URL http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar and press Enter.
A login screen like the one below will be displayed after you connect to the user interface.
Note: There are three account types, each requiring a different username and password.
• The user account provides limited access to certain configurations (username / password: user / user).
• The admin account can perform all functions
(username / password: admin / admin).
• The support account is for ISP technicians for maintenance purposes
(username / password: support / support).
Note: Passwords can be changed at any time.
3. Enter your user name and password, and then click OK to display the user interface.
Note: This manual has been prepared using the admin user name
It didn't work for me. Should the username be the email address from At&t that controls the DSL line, or should it be the username to get into the Netopia modem?
