We have a Stanley quiet-glide garage door opener and it opens a little and stops and then returns, sometimes, to the original spot or just goes about a foot and stops.

SOURCE: Garage door opens about one foot and remains there.

Check the door springs. You could have a broken spring. Also remove the cover and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor. It is possibly stripped. This is a good time to release the door from the opener and operate it by hand to see just how heavy it has become.

SOURCE: I have a Genie garage

There are codes on the back of the opener unit. One set is for going up and one set is for going down. Both sets on the back of the unit must match your opener or the frequencies will not open and close your door.

Stanley garage door opener model 440. need a manual

https://www.manualslib.com/products/Stanley-U-Install-3760134.html

If you can identify the model number, it may be possible to locate a manual from 1997 using the internet with http://www.google.com

According to one of the web sites above, "Stanley stopped making garage door openers and gate operators in 1997. Spare parts can be difficult to find however original and compatible remote controls are still widely available, most of the remote controls used by Stanley were manufactured by the Linear corporation.
Stanley made garage door openers for other companies and many parts are interchangeable some of the brands they manufactured for are Vemco, U-Install, Quiet Glide, Light Maker, Home Innovative, Whistler, Popular Mechanics, and Secure Code."

I NEED THE MANUAL FOR MY STANLEY 8500.51 GARAGE DOOR IT WON'T CLOSE

Try searching around here to find similar or hopefully exact opener. Stanley no longer is in the garage door business, and the company that bought them out went bankrupt.

Door comes down and goes right back up. then the lite blinks 4 times with a click noise. the safety eyes also are not on

It sounds like you need to adjust your down limit switch and/or perhaps your motor force settings. If the limit switch is not in the sweet spot along the rail it can be triggering too soon or not in time. In your case it could be too far down the rail and thus not stopping/slowing the motor in time. Your door is then being pushed against the floor too hard. Your safety/return force is goes way over limit and tells the opener to go back. While closing your door look at your rail and if its bending when the door hits the ground, this is definitely happening. After finding the sweet spot for your down limit switch, you can readjust your return/safety force per your opener manual.

I want to know if a universal wireless touchpad can be added to a Stanley Quiet Glide Garage Door Opener? If so, how do you set it up, I did not see any smart button or dip switches?

Hi - did you have any luck? I just bought a Skylink universal remote from Cdn Tire and don't see the "smart" button or dip switches on my Stanley remote or motor casing. There is a learn button on the casing but that appears to be for the door to "learn" the proper setting to go up and down and has nothing to do with the remote. Thanks!
