You should go through steps 1 and 2 in the manual to collect important ISP information. Once you have collected all the required information simply plug your cable or DSL modem into the wan port on the Gateway Router and plug your Macintosh into any one of the numbered ports. Plug the Gateway Router into a power source. Your Ethernet LAN adapter should be set to get a DHCP address. Reboot your Mac and it should get an IP address in the range of 192.168.2.x. Now open a web browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator) and type in the address bar 192.168.2.1. Skip step #3 in the manual as it only applies to Windows computers. Now continue with step #4.

Wireless capability turned on

You just got wireless turned on ?
Does this mean you just added a wireless router to your existing wired network ?
You may need to turn off the DCHP server in the wireless Router and give it a unique ip address eg if wired router is 192.168.0.1 then make wireless router 192.168.0.2 with gateway ip set as 192.168.0.1 then make wired dhcp router not lease out 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.20 make subnet mask the same also for each router.

You need a wireless router for you to use Wireless connection

I recommend DLINK, Belkin or Linksys router any of those will work.

you can still use wired connection because router has 4 ports for wired connection but if you prefer to use wireless then you need to buy USB wireless network adapter.

Where do i find the wep key if every ip adress i type wont work?????????????????????????????????????????????? HELP!!!!!!!!!

Logon to the computer with the wireless router connected to the modem. Use the software that came with your router to select the Wireless setup. You will see the Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) key that you must use on all computers using the wireless connection. If the software is not installed you could access the firmware from Internet Explorer. If you do not know the router address you can find it by the next steps.
1. Select Run from the Start menu.
2. Type CMD and press Enter.
3. Type IPCONFIG /ALL and press Enter.
4. Note the Default Gateway on a piece of paper.
Open Internet Explorer and type the Default Gateway in the Internet Explorer address bar (example: 192.168.0.1). You may have to type a username and password to access the firmware settings. You should find the password listed in your manual, possibly on the bottom or back of the router. Once you are in the router firmware find the wireless settings so you can see your WEP key and note that value on a piece of paper. Exit internet explorer to save your settings and again try to scan for wireless networks on other computers. Select your router and type in the WEP key and you should be wired.

If you have another computer online ( wired or wireless ) which is able to go online using the same router then check the IP address on the computer which is working.
is it a wireless computer ?
If it is a wireless computer then check whether it is connected to the wireless network or not.

Remote pc cannot access wireless

You can do a reset on your router. All computers must be must be getting its connection from your router. Your wired computer must be getting an ip address from the router(example is 192.168.1.x). You can then access the router page using your browser by typing the default gateway(example 192.168.x.1). This will take you to the router configuration page. You can set up the wireless network and your wireless network can now support more than 2 wireless computers.

Linksys WRT54G wireless router problem using Vista

The following is not a solution but a set of steps to determine an issue. Wire the router back up -- connect a computer to it using a wire -- can it access the internet? If so the WAN side router config is fine. The issue appears to be a wireless issue. Did the wireless card lose the proper configuration settings to access the router? Did the wireless adapter disconnect and need to be reconnected?

If nothing above was an issue we need to do some other testing -- I do not believe this is likely in this scenario where things were working -- but as we have not yet found out a cause.

Turn all machines on before the test and do not turn off until after

On at least one wired computer that is working and one wireless computer attaching to the linksys router I want you to do the following

Click Start then All Programs1.gif then Accessories then Command Prompt

In the window that opens type

ipconfig /all

press enter then record all of the following for each adapter1.gif
The back in the window enter the following command using the default gateway from the wired connection (your router address)

ping 192.168.1.1

you will either get 4 timeouts -- the connection fails or 4 messages with elapsed times generally measured in ms or milliseconds.

What you are looking for in the above
Good entries base
u should be unique for the linksys network1.gif
Wired IP address 192.168.1.u
SubNet Mask ?.?.?.? assuming 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS addresses ?.?.?.? not 0.0.0.0
where at least one is not zero.

Then wireless entries should be
Wired IP address 192.168.1.u should be 192.168.1.u
SubNet Mask same as wired
Default Gateway same as wired
DNS addresses same as wired
If these are wrong there is a configuration error either in the router or wireless adapters depending on how you want your network setup.

each connected adapter wired and each wireless should also
successfully ping the default gateway or router address

If the ipconfig is right and the wired config has successful pings, then every wireless adapter that fails has a wireless config issue.

If you are willing to work through this let me know and reply with information in a comment to this issue.

A couple of items to check -- these will not fix the issue but may isolate the problem.

Now to access your router pane ou need to get your default gateway and put that address in your browser then login.

To find ur default gateway:
start>run>type cmd> then type ipconfig/all

Good luck,
