Hi Dave,

This diagram is for the 600. Could not find one for the 602. but they are similar.
If you click on the pdf document download in the pic, you can see a larger breakdown. Take a look at the nose piece of the gun. You'll see the spring I believe you're describing. This spring allows the rod in the nose to "spring" back up when you're done driving the nail.
A couple things could be wrong. The most common problem is that the gun needs cleaning and lubricating to allow the pieces to move back and forth properly. Another problem would be that the little rod in the nosepiece is bent. The 3rd but least likely is that the spring is worn.
Try cleaning the piston chamber and oiling first. Check to see if the rod is bent. It might need replacing.
Good luck.

If the nails are not feeding into firing position, suspect that the driver is not returning to top position. To check if this is the problem, fire gun untill missfire. Remove air supply and insert rod into nose and push up driver. If driver will not move up and first nail cannot move into position, suspect debris in gun. If driver moves up into position when you push allowing first nail to move into position suspect worn piston oring cracked bumper or checkvalve oring is weak. Remove nails from gun and remove the head. Pull out the piston driver and examine the lower bumper. If cracked and missing pieces, replace. If bumper looks ok pull out the cylinder and look at oring around the lower outer part of cylinder. This oring is the check valve and causes the driver to return to top (checkvalve oring should fit snugly). If lower bumper is good and checkvalve oring is snug, make sure that the piston oring fits snugly in the cylinder and does not allow the driver to drop down the cylinder under its own weight. Lube all oring with silicone paste lube. Good luck.
Please refer to the following parts list so that I can help solve miss fire problem and your question on metal rod. Thanks http://www.senco.com/Documents/Guides/FP...

there was no reference to the 'spring loaded metal piece' that prevents the nails from getting to the firing chamber. what is that?
