How to clear error code 0000003d

Scanner is not working. It was tested and when I clicked on the scan icon an error message says "No scanner available. Unable to Proceed (code 0000003d)." I checked the connections, I turned it off and on again, I logged off and on again, and the problem was not corrected.

Is it a USB scanner? Look in System information\device manager to see if your scanner is at all recognized by the computer. If not, install the drivers that came with the scanner. If the drivers are already installed, use it with another USB cable to see if your own is the culprit. If the problem persists, replace the USB card.

If it passes 'test' from the computer, then it should be listed in the Device Manager. Uninstall / Remove that device, then Restart and Re-install it.

Try scanning using these steps, you can using these steps with out HP software as well.

    Issue The product displays an 0x ... error code when printing (for example Error: 0xf0af8004 ). These error codes indicate that the product has an internal condition. Solution Use the instructions below to resolve the issue by restarting the product.
    1. Disconnect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable from the back of the product, but leave the product turned on.
    2. Open the cover of the product and remove the print cartridges.
    3. Close the cover and wait for the Insert Ink Cartridges message to display.
    4. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product and wait for one minute.
    5. Reconnect the power cord. If the product does not automatically turn on, press the Power button.
    6. Open the cover and reinsert the print cartridges.
    7. Close the cover. If prompted, print a calibration page.

    After hours of trying things.I found this and it worked. The scanner button doesn't work, but at least I can scan.

    Error Code 009 Scanner out of paper

    Right-click the VRS icon in the system tray. Select QC Modes and uncheck Hardware Errors. This will stop VRS from flashing the out of paper message.

    (Also, ImageNow has it's own prompt when the scanner is empty. You can turn that off in the Scanning Profile on the Properties page.)
