If still under warranty or if you have no electronic repair experience you should take the set back to the shop or to a repair person. Some of the solutions described below can be dangerous, TV's are very hazardous to service. Also the following solutions worked for a very different set, take this into consideration. 2 things might have an effect on this: there are metal ring on the back of the CRT, rotating these can get the desired effect. These rings are usually glued together and they move the image diagonally. By adjusting the two diagonals one can achieve the desired position. The rings will need to move seperately in order to adjust them so the dab of paint that glues them together will need to be cracked (this usually can be accomplished by just rotating the rings but sometimes they will have to be gently pried apart). Let me repeat this is a very dangerous adjustment as it is immpossible to do with the machine off and the tabs on the rings are within mm of 9k volts. The preferred method is to rotate the rings with a non conductive probe (laymen call these unsharpenned pencils or plastic pen barrrels). There's also an adjustment on the yoke of the CRT, just in front of the small video board that plugs into the back of the CRT. If you look closely there should be a small lever/arm that you can move. As you move this, the alignment of your CRT video should also move right/left. Since this area is right in the middle of some high voltage and has to be done with the system/CRT on . Take care

Picture seems sunk in and the color distorted with doubleing effe

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

50H82 red wavy convergence (stks didn't fix)

If the tin can module you are referring to is the hyper module, it is common to replace all 11 caps because the factory caps ****. Check for bridged solder connections at STK's search the forum at electromaniacs for 50h81 :)

Convergence -manual

Replace the convergence amps and test and replace any or all of the 2.2ohm resistors in the yoke return path out in front of the amps. This unit takes two STK392-110 Sanyo originals, DO NOT GET CHINESE KNOCK-OFFS... Buy them from Acme sales out of Florida and you can be assured they're originals.
