my printer will not print the black ink.

  • Anonymous Sep 19, 2008

The printer will not align the cartridges and all of the printouts come out brown!

  • slayfire52 Apr 11, 2009

Same problem here as well. The colors come out fine, black does not print at all, the result is always a blank page, and can not align the cartridges. I filled a spare cartridge with a special cleaning fluid intended for inkjet printers, but still nothing. Please keep us informed if you have tried anything else or found a different approach.

I suggest you verify the permanent built-in PRINTHEAD performance inside this legacy printer model (either one of the procedures below applies to all printers which use HP02 or HP363 ink cartridges): For additional HP02 support information, please visit our HP02 system support page which includes videos of everything mentioned below: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1372
A. HP02 ink-series printers with KEYPAD (i.e. keypad numbers 1-9)
Tap 43 PRINTHEAD Health Diagnostics:
Video Procedure: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=2391
1. Press * and # keys simultaneously.
2. "Enter Special Key Combo" will be displayed.
3. Press 123 to display the 'Support/Service' menu.
4. At 'Support/Service' menu, click the Right Arrow 3 times until Special Reports menu is displayed.
5. Select Ok, then click Right Arrow 2 times until the 'print-mech button tap' menu is displayed.
6. Select Ok ('code = 0' will be displayed); click and hold Right Arrow until 'code = 43' is displayed. Use the Left Arrow if you need to decrease numerical count.
7. Select Ok. The test page prints.
8. Check the 4th line at the top of the printed report; an electrically good/stable PRINTHEAD 'Pen Status' will state "Pen Status: Pen OK".........if any other message is displayed then the PRINTHEAD may have failed and may need to be replaced (if part is still available). It is suggested to perform the 'Printer Reset' procedure below to first rule out printer firmware related problem.
B. HP02 ink-series printer models that DO NOT HAVE a KEYPAD:
Internal Test Print:
1. Press the Menu button, press the Right Arrow button to select 'Tools', and then press 'OK'.
2. Press the Right Arrow button several times to select 'Print Test Page', and then press 'OK'. The test page prints.
Tap 43 PRINTHEAD Health Diagnostics - See Video Procedure: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=2377
1. Turn ON the printer.
2. Press and Hold the "Print Photos" & "Red Eye Removal" buttons.
3. Release both buttons.
4. You will see a new screen that says, "Enter Special Key Combo"... The Key combo is: press and release in sequence the "Red Eye Removal", "Print Photos", and then "Red Eye Removal"
5. Scroll through the menu by pressing the right arrow button until the display says 'Special Reports'.
6. Select Ok, then press the arrow button until the 'print-mech button tap' menu is displayed.
7. Select Ok ('code = 0' will be displayed); click and hold Right Arrow until 'code = 43' is displayed.
8. Select Ok. The test page prints.
9. Check the 4th line at the top of the printed report; an electrically good/stable PRINTHEAD 'Pen Status' will state "Pen Status: Pen OK".........if any other message is displayed then the PRINTHEAD may have failed (unfortunately the PRINTHEAD is not replaceable). It is suggested to perform the 'Printer Reset' procedure below to first rule out printer firmware related problem.

My printer tells me that I have no ink in it. I have the six different inks required, and they are all originals or HP compatible. the printer is HP Photosmart C5180 All-in-one

Good day.
There are a few possible cause why you are encountering this issue. One of them is that the ink cartridge orange cap on the nozzle of the ink cartridge are not yet removed. Here are a few troubleshooting you could do.
Try to print a print status report, press Setup Menu softhardware_0.jpg >Tools > Print Test Page or Print Printer Status report and check the print outs. If it still the same message try aligning the print head.
Align Printhead: Setup Menu>Tools>Align Printhead You should get a message on the front panel Aligning Printhead After this step, turn off the printer and power it on after 30 seconds.
If it's still the same issue, you have to manually reseat the ink cartridge and check if the orange caps on the ink cartridges are removed. Make sure that they are securely in place, you should be able to hear a snapping sound once they are seated properly.
Try to align the print head again from the Tools Menu on the printer's front panel.
Tip: If the print out is fine and you are able to print without any issues, the front panel message you are getting is a false front panel error.

I have a printer HP c5180 all in one, only have black ink , not color, i dont want print in color . can I use the printer black and white (not color) only?

You can go into the print properties and set it to print black only, however if any of the color cartridges are empty the printer may not print until you replace whichever cartridge is empty.

Always starts up and does an alignment page.

  1. After installing a new print cartridge, wait at least 20 seconds for the print cartridge alignment process to start.
  2. Wait for the print cartridge alignment process to fully complete.
  3. Make sure that the alignment page has printed on plain, white paper that has no other printing on it. If you need to create a new alignment page, load the tray with letter or A4 unused plain white paper and turn the product off and on again to create the page.
after the alignment page prints then place the alignment sheet on the scanner glass and press the ok button

How can I print Black only?

Hi

HP Inkjet printers work only if both the cartridges have ink unlike HP Laserjet printers.
If you want the printer to print only in black, Follow the steps

Start --->Control panel -- >Printers and faxes ---->Right click on the printer icon (HP c5100) select printing preferences.
Under printing prefences there u will see an option to print with black or print in gray scale.

Note:HP Inkjet printers like Photosmart C5180 will work only both the cartridges have ink.

Thanks
Riz
