My new nvidia 9500gt graphics card is just showing a splodge of colours when I boot up the pc. The initial screen recognises the new card i.e. it says 9500gt. I've successfully reinstalled the old nvidia 6400tc card. Any ideas? Computer is compaq 1440uk on xp sp2 with 2gb of ram and amd 3400+ processor. I've tried the supplied drivers with the card and also just left current card drivers (which nvidia says are the same)

Thanks. I bought it from Maplin so will just take it back. I wondered if my system was too old to take the card or whether I should try to update the bios (which I'm reluctant to do)

I've now replaced with an Asus radeon hd6570 for same price which is working very well. Never used radeon cards before but so far impressed. Some of the utilities dont seem to be working but minor detail!

Does my d845gvsr motherboard support a 9500GT graphics card?

9500GT Series graphics card uses PCI Express Slot(16X). As for your Mainboard D845GVSR it comes with AGP Slot(4x or 8x). The graphics card slot on your Mainboard AGP will not fit the PCI Express slot for this Nvidia chipset 9500GT Graphics Card. You cannot use the 9500GT Series card for your mainboard.

The highest Nvidia Graphics card that support AGP Slot is the 7300GT Chipset Series.

Hope it helps.

Have you installed the proper monitor drivers as your main display? Also at Nvidia they have a large selection of new drivers for this. From what I have read, it only seems to happen with Windows 7. What operating system are you running, and also what Monitor do you have?

Coloured And Dotted Lines Across My Screen

Firstly, start your pc in safe mode (f8) on boot up. This will start your pc in vga mode, and hopefully the lines are still there, which will indicate a faulty graphics card, if they aren't it may be a problem driver. If no lines, go to Add/remove programmes and uninstal your graphics driver. Re boot pc then when it finds your card make sure you point Windows to the folder in which you have saved the driver files. The driver should then install, see if any change. You may have to try some older drivers, as Nvidia can be awkward at times. I have had varying problems with Nvidia and replaced with ATI cards with no problems.
