GE side by side not cooling properly/outside surface hot

We have a GE Eterna Series side by side fridge/freezer. We noticed yesterday the freezer is not cooling properly. The fridge seems like it might not be quite as cold either. I also noticed that the front surface between the two comparments where the doors meet and the seals are is hot. It is also hot on the very front outside surface of the freezer. It has been running - just not cooling enough. Also, yesterday when I had the freezer door open taking things out, I heard something running, but not smooth-rather more like it was pulsing. Does this sound like it is fixable? It is only about 4 years old. Any information you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Please check the condenser fan motor. it is probably not running or the condenser is very dirty.

remove the rear cover and it will show you the compressor and the condenser fan.
if the fan is not running, try to rotate it manually and feel if it is sticking .

if it is, it may just need the old wd 40 lubricant.

My refrigerator stopped cooling and my freezer stopped freezing but the freezer is still cooling
Same thing with our GE Eterna Series - off and on for the last two weeks. Took back panel off, looked around, vacuumed dust build up off of the fan blades, etc.; everything worked fine for five good days. Then frig went out stopped cooling. Off and on for the last week. Unplugging it works for a day then back to not freezing and or colling.

is there alot of frost in the rear panel of the freezer if not the compressor is not start or getting hot because fan that cools it has failed is the part between the side/side door extremely hot if so check the cooling fan for the compressor

Vertical surface on the sides towards the front hot
clean the coil behind the fridge or under the fridge (where ever they are) and make sure both fans are running, the one in the freezer and the one underneath

Fridge always running
Check the fan which cools the compressor from behind the fridge . If not working , replace the fan motor . ALSO , check to be sure the coils under the fridge are clean of dust (from the front only ) .

The unit isnt defrosting hence the ice on the back panel. Either your bimetal thermostat is open or the heating element is shot. Most GEs they come together so happy hunting. Those parts are behind the frosting panel

Ge eterna series fridge side not working
Could you look inside the freezer compartment and after unplugged remove the panel to see if ice is blocking the vent to fresh food compartment. If there is ice it could be something is not working with the defrost cycle. Your refrigerator has a control board that handles these processes but other factors can cause ice buildup in vent. Check the back wall of the freezer for ice buildup.
If yes, a defrost parts problem.
Check the freezer fan. Is it running?
If no, replace the freezer fan.
Check the condenser fan at the compressor. Is it running?
If no, is compressor hot?
If compressor is hot replace condenser fan motor.
If compressor is not hot.
Replace the compressor start relay.
