The carriage on my recently acquired olivetti LETTERA 35l portable typewritter is locked in the center position. The lever for locking/unlocking, at least what appears to be pointed to in the instructions, moves up and down but doesn't release the carriage. Is there something else that should be tweaked at the same time, or is this just busted? Thank you for any help.
The solution is not right--there is a carriage return release lever on the far right of the typewriter, that engages a notch on the underside of the roller/carriage return--push it forward to release the lever and you are in business--it has a spoon shaped end and its on the right side

Try using the TAB or space bar to move it. If that dosn't work, there may be a problem in the mecanism. If you get to this point, try moving it manually, just a little bit, very careful. Daniel

My olivetti lettera 35 is stuck in center position and i've tried everything to fix it.
Thanks, arnolt3048. Following your instructions, plus prying the jammed release lever with a screwdriver, finally unlocked the carriage.
I have a Olivetti Lettera 32 with a carriage in the locked position. Have tried moving/pushing/pulling every lever with no success. Help!
