Re:
The discoloring problem is quite common, but its hard to tell from your post what?s the degree of the defect.
Unfortunately the LCD screen washing out in bright sunlight is a
problem on many digitals, and also streaking lines coming off bright areas. There are hoods that you can buy for the Nikons that
will fix this problem. I don't have any links to them but they are not
hard to find.
If you think your problem is really too much to absorb, feel it can't possibly be anything normal, or have problems with the actual pictures as they transfer to a computer, I suggest you take it back to the store and say you're not satisfied with the product.
Hope it turns out well.

There is two ways to view your "taking picture" with the LCD and with the viewfinder, you can shut the LCD off to save battery power and use the viewfinder and that is what I think has happened. a touch of the DISP button and it will switch from the LCD to the viewfinder. here is a diagram
Diagram With you saying the LCD is working for functions but not for taking pictures this is what I suspect is the problem.
What you're describing is a feature called "live view" (or more accurately "live preview"). It enables the user to treat the LCD like a viewfinder to compose shots just like on any digital compact camera.
Although many newer digital SLR's now have live view, the D60 does not so you cannot achieve what you want. All that the LCD is for is to view photos already taken and to provide camera menus and information in all other modes. Composing the images before pressing the shutter is done solely via the optical viewfinder.
Think that you might have accidentally pressed the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the LCD display on and off to save batteries. You would then use the optical viewfinder in its place. To turn the screen back on, just press the DISP button one more time.
Hi dear, you need to see the manual (http://www.retrevo.com/support/FujiFilm-S700-Digital-Cameras-manual/id/2488ag805/t/2/) Some camera only use viewfinder to shoot photo,The LCD is for setup and display photo only.Because it's off it will save a lot of battery power so that you can shoot more photos.Check it out in the manual.Have FUN!
Pentax K200D is a SLR Digital Camera..... in SLR you can the images in LCD after it has been taken.... while cliking image you need to use the Viewfinder......
Gimbo again. Think LCD damaged will need to repair. Pics. as normal when viewed or printed.
Why has nobody commented?
How much to replace screen? Any ideas?
Make sure you look straight through the viewfinder. Keep in mind that the area visible through the viewfinder is slightly smaller than the area captured in the photo. If you're taking a close-up or macro mode picture, turn the camera dial to the LCD mode so that you can use your LCD screen to preview your picture.

Since the viewfinder sees the subject different than the picture taking lens, we recommend using the LCD monitor screen for taking macro pictures. The image previewed on the LCD monitor will be the exact image that is taken.
