If the washer doesn't operate or make any noise when set on any cycle, or if it stops suddenly when it should continue onto the next cycle, it may not be receiving electrical power or, if the motor stopped mid-cycle, the machine's overload protector may have tripped. In this case, take out some of the articles to reduce the load and let the protector reset itself, then restart. Otherwise: 1) Be sure it is plugged in and turned on. If necessary, check the receptacle it's plugged into for power, using a working lamp, appliance, or voltage tester. Be sure the washer lid is closed completely. 2) If the receptacle seems dead, check the circuit breaker or fuse that serves that circuit. 3) Unplug the washer and check the power cord. If necessary, replace the cord. 4) Open the lid and check the lid switch and the tab on the lid that it pushes against. Press and release the switch: if it doesn't click when you do this, it's probably broken. If you're experienced at home repair, you can remove the switch, test it, and replace it if needed; otherwise, call an appliance repair service person. 5) If the washer still doesn't work, the controls may be faulty. Call a service person.

If your washing machine does not turn on lights or make noises, it probably has come to an end. You have correctly performed the necessary tests. Now I recommend that you request the services of a specialist. You will save time and money. Believe me.

The Hot Point washing machine has stopped agitating but does spin-what is wrong?

Hello,

The most usualthing wrong when the Hotpoint brand washer doesn't agaitate is a stripped agitater coupler,i don't see a model number in your question so i don't know if yours uses that coupler but its by far the leading thing wrong with that problem.

This youtube video will show ya how to replace that coupler, watch it and take off your agitator to see if that's the problem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N26MCQKuXn0

Washer won't agitate or spin

Hello there and welcome to fixya
there are several things that you will need to check first ok please verrify the following
It doesn't pump or spin
If it doesn't pump water out or spin, check to see if the motor is running, then proceed as follows:
If the motor is running, your washer probably has a frozen pump pulley or a broken pump belt. To check the pulley, remove the pump from the washer and try to rotate the pulley manually. If it doesn't turn freely--if it's frozen or stiff--replace it. If the pump belt is broken or looks quite worn, replace it--but be sure to check the pump pulley before you change the belt.
If the motor isn't running, the lid switch may be defective. If so, the washing machine can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

Not much information for DIY repair. It is a portable machine suggest taking it to a repair center and request an estimate for repair.

Dead shorts such as this indicates from the successive breaker tripping are usually easy to troubleshoot by a qualified technician and could be an inexpensive repair.

It is a very dangerous condition, dead shorts are rare and can present a hazaderous condition for the user!!! Do not attempt any additional use.

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

Sorry but with such a fault it is extremely difficult for anybody on this forum to remotely guess what is wrong with your washer.
It could be internal wiring/plugs sockets, control panel switches, control PCB. I fear that your only real option is a service call as the engineer will have the right equipment to safely diagnose what is wrong ;-0(

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!
