The key to keeping a kitchen range operating properly is to clean it regularly. Beyond that basic maintenance, only a couple of repair jobs are within the skills of most homeowners because most repairs require a thorough understanding of the appliance. With the help of an owner?s manual, you can replace door gaskets, adjust the feet beneath a range to correct for uneven cooking, and relight a pilot. Of course, you can also reposition racks if foods are cooking unevenly and you can check cords, circuit breakers, and fuses. Here are a few tips for cleaning your range: * Clean up spills soon after they occur. Some acidic foods, such as tomato products, can damage the surface of the cooktop or interior of the oven. * Loosen cooked-on gunk with water or baking soda and water?do not use abrasive materials, which can scratch surfaces. * Keep the reflector bowls of gas burners clean; it?s not only more pleasing, but the shiny surface makes cooking more efficient. * Wash burner controls and other knobs with warm water and detergent. Some knobs have markings that can come off, so take care not to soak or scrub them too much. * Clean gas burners and grates thoroughly. * Use commercial oven cleaners very cautiously, because they are highly toxic. Follow instructions carefully. As an alternative, fill a glass bowl with half a cup of ammonia and let it stand in the oven overnight. Wipe the walls clean with paper towels or newspapers. Before doing any work on the stovetop, always unplug the range or turn off the power at the main electrical panel. Do not hesitate to call a professional appliance repair person if you have any doubt about your knowledge or abilities when repairing an electric range.

Electronic touch pad not working on my oven

Hello beachlady80,
Welcome

You said, It was working fine last night but when you woke up this morning the display has 3 vertical lines and none of the electronic touch pads work. The burners on top of the stove still work.

What is the model number and how old is the range ?

Try turning the breaker off for 10 minutes and then on again after this allotted time.
This may reset the system.
Let me know how it works.

Waiting for your answer.

Top of Gemini range

Hello patricialc,
Welcome,

You said, you have the stainless Gemini range and the top is black. I cannot get the top clean. It looks like the paint or the surface is "bubbled". I have tried EVERYTHING and it always looks like there is grease spatters on the top. I have all Maytag appliances and I am VERY disappointed with this stove. If I could, I would take it back...but I keep trying. I let the Maytag stove I had go. It was made in the late '50's, so I could 'update'. What a mistake!!!

The other option is to order a new glass top and have it replaced.
No abrasives!!

Let me know how you do.

How to replace the ceramic range top

you need to replace the glass top itself???that might be an expensive proposition.but heres the how to. theres 2 or3 screws along the front underside of main top. this will release the top enabling you to tip back and look underneath.not a hard job, just gonna take some patients. assuming you have the new top. its gonna be a matter of taking from one and installing on other. you will not have to undo any of the wires leading to the burner elements. instead undo the screws that are holding the elements up to the top . should be 2 brackets running lent gh of unit . undo the brackets and lay the elements down on the insulation . after removing both swap out glass and reinstall new . there will be multiple ***** holes on new glass for supporting brackets. look closely at old one for proper placement
