My first frontloader worked like a charm for the first four months - now it keeps pausing itself at times during the cycle. It is usually in the WASH cycle when it does it and it sits there and hums like it is doing something. I have went through all the troubleshooting tips and nothing works. Mine is a GE WBVH6240HWW.
You may have something in your drain pump.
1) Remove the three screws in the bottom remove bottom panel.
2) Remove drain pump cover (have towels or pan to catch water that comes out)
3) Remove any debris from pump, check that the impeller is not damaged and can be moved freely.
4) reinstall drain pump cover and bottom panel
Let me know if it helps
Hi claire64 - Usually when "PAU" displays on the screens, it indicates that the unit thinks that the door is not securely latch when you started the cycle, or the cycle has been interrupted. Try pressing "PAUSE/CANCEL" or "START/PAUSE" once to resume washer. If proves to be ineffective, try reprogramming the unit by unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker off. Wait approximately ten minutes, restart unit and resume cycle. If fault reoccurs, then it typically means that the unit either has a faulty door latch assembly or a communication error from the control board. Since there are cost differences in parts, it is always a good idea to have a service tech properly diagnose your appliance.
What does the Sd code mean?
This code indicates that excessive detergent suds occurred during the cycle. The washer will not be able to spin out water with the excess suds. When "Sd" is displayed, the washer automatically extends the rinse time to remove the excess suds. During this time, the washer pauses the wash action and adds water for additional rinsing. This pause allows the bubbles in the suds to break. This process is necessary and may occur several times to eliminate the suds.
Concentrated detergents labeled 2x and higher will require a small amount of detergent based on load size. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations.
Use only HE High Efficiency detergent for BravosTM washers.
Is "Sd" displayed and the wash cycle dial is flashing? This indicates the washer was not able to clear all the excess suds from the washer. Re-select your desired cycle using cold water. Press Start/Pause. Do not add detergent. Is "Sd" displayed and the wash cycle dial is not flashing? If "Sd" is displayed and the wash cycle dial is not flashing, allow the machine to continue running, even if it appears that nothing is happening. When "Sd" is displayed, the washer automatically extends the rinse time to remove the excess suds. During this time, the wash action will pause to allow the bubbles in the suds to break, and the washer will add water for better rinsing. This rinsing process is necessary and may occur several times to eliminate the suds. Is the drain hose kinked or clogged? Make sure that the drain hose is not kinked or clogged. Straighten the hose for adequate water flow. Remove any blockage from the drain hose, drainpipe or utility sink. Use the U-shaped drain hose form on the drain hose, and secure the drain hose. To remove the error display, press Power/Cancel or Pause/Cancel once.
If Power/Cancel or Pause/Cancel does not work: NOTE: If the error remains on the display, and all of the other questions above have been checked, call for service.

Mine does the same thing. Happened before and the repair guy said the computer board was fried. Had to replace it which cost a fortune. Now, just a few months later, it's doing the same thing. So, I'm wondering if the removal of debris solved your problem so I don't have to call the repair people again.
Thanks!
IT KEEPS PAUSING AND IT DOESNT FILL UP WITH WATER
My washer started pausing in the middle of washing cycle and also would not drain or spin extra water out of the clothes once the cycle was complete. Now it will not even finish a cycle without pausing every 5-10 minutes. The timer continues to count down but it isn't washing the clothes.
