Our Element TV, EN36071, purchased from Walmart about 16-18 months ago continues to display closed captions. We have tried going into the setup and a closed caption option doesn't show up on the screen to change it. We then tried using the remote control and press the CC button, and it doesn't do anything either. We looked at the Users Manual and it references going into the Setup Screen and when we do exactly as they say, the Closed Caption is not an option anywhere for us to select to change it. Do you have any suggestions to remove the closed captions from the TV? This has been occurring for months now and is terrible.

Turn on the TV. Press the Menu on your remote (or on your TV screen) to display the Main Menu. Use left or right arrow (button) to select the TV "SETUP".. Use the up or down arrow (button) to select the CC (closed captions) SETUP option. Select the analog & digital mode and use the left or right arrow (button) to switch/toggle it to OFF (by pressing the OK button).
This process may vary slightly depending on the TV (make & model).
When you turn it off are you going into the setup menu to do this?? if so after it comes back on and you go back to the menu and you see it..as "on" You will need to save your settings before you exit out of the menu
Hello After switch ON the TV, and after picture has displayed on the screen with 'closed Caption" window, just press button "CC" on your remote control. For each press, the close caption window will vanish and disappear. OK.
Using this button will set the Closed Caption mode when viewing a DTV or TV channel.

The easiest solution is to purchase a universal remote control. I just purchased one from Walmart for $4.94. The setup is easy as there is an "auto-search" that identifies the code for your TV. Once it's setup, life gets a lot better.
Joe from what you describe it sounds as if the closed captioning display is turning on either through the tv or cable box if your's has that capability. Go to the menu on the tv and go to the setup option, from there you should be able to locate the closed captioning option and turn it off or disable it. The same may need to be done with your cable box if it is closed captioning compatible. I hope this is of some assistance to you. If I can help in anyway please let me know.
