1. Install and update the system BIOS: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&ServiceTag=&SystemID=LAT_PNT_PM_D610&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid= Note: Make sure that both the ac adapter and the battery are attached to the notebook. Follow on-screen instructions on how to flash the BIOS.
2. If Dell QuickSet is installed, press <Fn><F3> to display the
QuickSet Battery Meter. The Battery Meter displays status, battery
health, charge level, and charge completion time for the battery in your
computer. If battery health says that the battery is degraded and needs replacement, then you may need to replace your battery.
If there is a power issue, the first thing we need to determine is if it's the power adapter or the battery. Is there any difference if:
- You boot up with the battery in but the AC adapter not connected? - You boot up with both the battery and AC adapter connected? - You boot up with the AC adapter connected but the battery removed?
If different things happen for each of these scenarios, the problem is either a faulty power adapter or battery, depending on which one you can boot up without.
There is a small IC that Dell solders into their power supply as well as their batteries. When this parts fails you will have the type of problem you are having now. If you do a search on the web you will find a large number o sites that discuss this. Unfortunately there is no fix other than replacing your power supply. I had to do the same thing myself for the Dell laptop I use.
try connecting ac adapter alone without the laptop, check if ac adapter light will stay green or blue. try another power outlet using the ac adapter alone without the laptop check if the ac adapter light will stay as green or blue. if all fails replace ac adapter.
if ac adapter stays green or blue try connecting to the laptop without the batt, check if the ac adapter light will stay on, if yes then try connecting ac adapter to laptop with the batt plugin check if the light stays green. if not update the BIOS. if fails replace motherboard.
If not powering from DOCK, AC adapter and only from battery, since the Battery, DOck and adapter are known good, it is a matter of a motherboard replacement
Test your charger, the battery light blinking and the computer not starting up indicates not enough power to start up or not pluged into ac power, check the power adapter or charger. I suspect the battery is fine.
In the BIOS, does it show the battery and it's current state? As weird as it sounds, I've fixed an issue like this on a D600 by updating the BIOS to the most current level. Weird, but true.
