You have to take apart the UPS. Inside you will find a battery. On the battery you will find the make and model of the battery. Buy a new battery install it. Plug in UPS and turn it on.

Unplug your UPS from the wall. Disconnect the batteries. Push the on button. LED's may flash. This is how to reset the logic. Connect the batteries and plug back in. Everything should be reset.

A UPS 500 uses two smartcell batteries. As for the APC Smart UPS, there are different models, but most UPS's will generally use two batteries.

You could try to reset the CMOS using the CMOS jumper settings near the battery, other than CMOS reset and replacing the battery there is no other way you can do to fix it other than returning it to the supplier. What you can do is to try to request a motherboard service unit in your supplier so that you can still use your pc until you are waiting for your motherboard.

APC back UPS 400 fails to give back up

I have the same problem with an apc smart-ups VS 650.

New batteries - charge in batteries is good (also tested under load).

When AC power fails, no power is supplied to PC connectors by the UPS.

UPS self test works fine. UPS does not report any problems via software - Power Management under Windows XP.
