What is the TV source? For some sources (set top box), you may need to turn on the captions using the menus of the box.

Assuming you are using a source that gives captions that the TV can interpret, if you have the Proscan 26LA30Q remote, press the CC button to toggle through the caption options. Another route is to press Menu (either on the remote or the buttons on the side of the TV) then select the Feature submenu with the left/right arrows. Press Enter (menu when you use the buttons on the TV) then navigate to the Digital Closed Captions option. Here you can set the captions to on and adjust the size, style and color of the captions when they appear on-screen.

If you are using a universal remote, try the CC button. If it doesn't work, try another code for the Proscan TV on the remote. There are some codes that may not control all of the functions of the TV with the remote.

Crutchfield has the manual for the TV on the product site: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Kaec3gBqVtM/p_68326LA30Q/Proscan-26LA30Q.html . The direct link is http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield.com/Manuals/683/68326LA30Q.PDF .

I hope this helps

We cannot turn the closed caption off.

  • Cindy Wells Jun 14, 2014

Again what is your source? If the captions are being transmitted by the dvd player or satellite/cable box, you need to turn them off at the source. (One of my neighbors had enabled captions for a visiting relative via the set-top box to an older TV. When the relative left, they'd forgotten the steps to disable the captions. Unfortunately, with the satellite box, the caption menu was not directly accessible with the CC button on the remote.) Cindy Wells

Close Captioning on Dish Network VIP722 DVR Receiver

Christy Hartl,

I can definitely look this over with you. This sounds like it is on one receiver. It is possible it could be the equipment, but first I would like you to check something for me.

Go to Menu -> Preferences (8) -> Closed Captioning (6) -> Caption On/Off (1). Make sure it is selected for "CC is on." Once that's enabled, try it again. If CC's are still not showing, press 'Info' on the remote and see if CC is listed on the program. Let me know if you have any questions.

How do i turn on the caption with universal remote RCr311W to a sanyo tv moel#DS27820 ?

Here is the link to the User's Manual for that universal remote control:

http://www.voxxsupport.com/images/User%20Manuals%20-%20FAQ's/RCR311W_DOC_OM.pdf

Unfortunately there is no dedicated button on that particular universal remote for operating the Closed Captioning feature on your TV.

You can try using the MENU button on that remote in order to access the AUDIO OPTIONS on your TV. Then see if you can activate the CLOSED CAPTIONING from there. See page 5 of the above manual for instructions on how to operate the MENU button on that remote.

Otherwise you will have to use the original factory remote control that came with the TV, or go out and buy a more expensive / advanced universal remote control with all the additional features and buttons that you require.

Good luck.

I can't get closed caption off my dvd player

Some DVD players cannot handle closed captions. Cheaper or older hardware players sometimes strip out the closed caption data. Players that have a progressive scan mode sometimes block captions when in this mode. And anything that's connected with an HDMI cable can't pass through captions. Most software players that you use when you play a DVD on your computer don't have any way to decode the captions. Windows Media Player can display DVD captions, and Apple DVD Player can display pop-on captions but not roll-up style captions. Certain paid versions of WinDVD and PowerDVD have CC capability. Look in your player's preferences to see if there are any closed caption options.

I have a Sanyo TV DP32648 and the closed caption won't turn off. i don't have the original remote and even now have a programable logtech remote. how do i turn off the closed caption

You will need to have CAPTION button on the universal remote control to turn on/off the caption, if it does not have that function then you will need the original remote.
SANYO remote model GXBJ is needed for this TV.
You can get used one for $20 on EBAY or a lot more for new one at:

I have an Orion 19"

You usually need the original remote. The trouble with universal remotes is that they generally control only the basic functions of a TV (power, volume, channel) but not much else. Without the original, you often lose other functions. You can try the front panel buttons if yours has them. On some sets the on-screen menus allow you to access caption settings.

But are you sure the captions are coming from the TV? Sure, the TV is displaying them, but if you have a satellite receiver, cable box or digital set-top box, the captions may be coming from that device. This is likely to be true if the captions just mysteriously started and you don't have or aren't using the TV original remote. These devices often don't allow a TV's built-in caption decoder to work properly, so they provide captions themselves. You may have turned captions on using that device's remote. Check the menu for caption controls.

How to activate "closed captioning" for a Proscan Full HD 1080P

Comcast's remote has nothing to do with closed captioning. It's on your tv remote. First, the tv has to be capable of handling closed captioning, and your's is- and second, the program must have closed captioning provided- current programs do, some older shows do not support closed captioning. Recheck your remote, and if necessary- look at the setup instructions that came with the TV- they should also be posted online at the Proscan support site.
