if the player will no longer read any commercial dvd that you attempt to play, the unit is defective and needs to be replaced. Hopefully, since it's brand new, you still have the receipt and can return it to the retailer for an exchange or refund. The unit has a 90 day warranty from the date of purchase. You would need the receipt in order to receive a warranty exchange.
you feel this solution doesn't deserve a good rating, please let me

If these disks have not been finialized then they will not play on the dvd player. Turn your computer on and see if they will play. If they will then you will need to the dvd palyer finialize them. I hope this helps you. If not get back to me and then we can try a different way.
yes the dvd player might not be suitable to play the dvd some players reject the dvd if it is a double sided disk and it will say things like what has come up on your screen if you want a good dvd player get a samsung or an LG they can play lots of different dvd's played on them and have little problems hope that helps
I had this problem after only a few months of use! There were some bad capacitors on the power supply board. Replacing them fixed the player. They used cheap electrolytic capacitors on this unit; check them all while you have it open.
