I have a Dell Inspiron 5100. Problem: From the top right-hand-side of the screen there is a darkened area (about 3 inches wide) straight line down towards the bottom area. The appearance is as if it is about to burn-out.I can still at this moment read the information across the screen, but I am concerned that this is going to fail soon. What do you think is going on and what is the solution?

It almost sounds like a bad LCD inverter board. They are pretty simple to change out and generally pretty cheap depending on your model of laptop. If you remove the bezel around the LCD screen, you should see the inverter board just underneath the screen itself. They are usually 4 or 5 inches long with a plug at each end. I would try replacing that before I went looking for a new LCD screen. Hope this helps.

Top, middle of screen there is a constant flicker. The flicker starts at the top, middle and goes about half way down the screen.

I have a blue line about 3/4 inch wide from the top right to the middle bottom. ( not a straight line ) I replced thr projection lamp with no fix to the problem. I added an additipnal fan and cleared up the problem. On furthe investigation I replaced the air filter and kept only the original fan and the problem was solved. Can you explain this.

Smudge mark 2-in wide down right side of each sheet of paper.

Generally speaking, any area that is darkened, is receiving less light. This can come from a lamp that is failing (similar to a fluorescent lamp used for lighting developing a dark end) or a mirror or optical lense that is contaminated with toner.
This may require some disassembly to diagnose and cure.
You may also want to visually check the fuser assembly (often accessible behind a door) to ensure there is no toner buildup on the affected side.

Vertical line on side of LCD TV

Modern televisions have screens divided into sections. Each section controls all the rows in its area, and it is controlled by its own video separate video driver. If you are missing a line in a section, then a problem has occurred with the driver board in that area. It will be pretty expensive to fix, I hope your warranty has not just expired!

2-3 inch swath of green from top to bottom of screen, in center

Might be a problem with your memory, your video driver,or the screens inverter board.
If you have more than 1 bank of memory, try removing one bank at a time and see if this corrects the problem. If so ,replace the bank that was removed when your screen works properly.
Also ,try updating the driver through the "Windows Update" service. If neither of those works, you may have a faulty inverter board.

Lines coming down from the top of screen

Those lines are beaming in from the planet Alenod. For the moment you'll only be annoyed by those lines. But when those lines finally expand the entire surface of your screen you and everything in your viewing area will vaporize. Gosh, If I were you I'd chunk it as quickly as possible and buy a 47" Vizio! They're on sell at Sams! Pleeze hurry!!

40 inch lcd blue line vertical

The display screen is made of a matrix of elements connected to cables along the side and top. On your unit, some of these many, tiny connections are making contact intermittantly thus losing the elements in that area. These contacts are held in place with just pressure and if that is disturbed, you lose that line of elements. Try squeezing the cabinet of the TV on the outside at the top in the area of the loss and see if that makes a difference. May have to go inside and see if the contact assembly is disturbed or warped or something.
Hope ya fix it!
